Hi, I suspect that I've had endo since I was a teenager but similar to others it has never been picked up on an ultrasound. I'm now 28 and due to my symptoms my doctor wants to refer me for a lap. I'm terrified about what this delayed diagnosis means for my health and my fertility. On top of this I'm stuck abroad due to the lockdown and feel completely isolated and afraid. Does endometriosis cause serious health complications? Can it be fatal? Wondering if anyone else has dealt with an endo diagnosis whilst living abroad.
Thank you

Hi GreenGirl,I completely understand the feeling of being terrified about endometriosis. I have it as well, and I've had scared times too.
Something that might help you feel better - try taking a look at the endometriosis UK website. They have good information there about what endometriosis is, how it is diagnosed, and guidance about how to manage it - even during Covid. Information usually helps.
To reassure you, my understanding is that endometriosis can be managed, and it is not fatal (although complications would be very good to avoid, if possible).
Hi GreenGirl64, I’m so sorry that you’re having to deal with this whilst far from home. Please stay strong; you have done amazingly well to put up with your symptoms so long. diagnosis & treatment now will hopefully improve life no end. Read all the information you can. I think you’ll find it reassuring with regard to your future and your fertility. Wish you all the best xxx
Hi there. I was diagnosed in my country just before I moved abroad. It's a manageable condition. I went on birth control pills and it reduced some scarring on my ovaries. Although I don't know the full extent of the spread as I haven't yet gone in for surgery. Will do in the near future.
I also made some good lifestyle changes like working out regularly and eating more healthy. It's manageable and it's amazing you're getting a proper diagnosis. Don't worry and hold on! You can do this!
Hi, I know its hard but you don't know what effect the delay in diagnosis has had until you are operated on. Are you happy with your surgeon? Did you find them knowledgeable? It's a specialist operation so important to have someone with a good understanding. Ask the surgeon if they will look at your bowel, urinary system etc, basically beyond your gynae organs as that's very important. If they won't do that, then best to find another surgeon.
Many women with endo have babies without a problem so I wouldn't worry. You will only know when you start trying.
Stress will cause increased symptoms and added issues so worth exercising of you can and meditating
Endometriosis isn't normally fatal, but can cause complications with other organs.
