Hi I was the same as you before having my lap in 2019, never been put to sleep before that , I was super nervous

I can say try to relax before hand although easier said than done , once your prepped & they take you to theatre it is nerve wracking at first when going in but you won’t remember a thing after that, they give you the general anaesthetic & you’ll be asleep in no time. You’ll awake in recovery & it’ll all be over. Wishing you all the best for tomorrow xx

Hi, I had a lap a few years ago and I’m now awaiting another one. I was super nervous as never had a general anaesthetic before. The staff were amazing, they put you at ease. I was asked what my favourite cocktail was and what was in it....I started to explain and next thing I know I’m being woken up and it’s all been done! It’s all over before you know it. Try and relax, I know it’s not easy, but you’ll be fine and you’ll be home in the evening xx

Hi!I’m happy to hear that you are going to have laparoscopy!

To move forward!

It’s normal for you to feel nervous and scared!

Hopefully having that surgery will make you feel so much better!

I had mine in December 2018 and felt so much better!

You’ll be put under anesthetic, so you won’t remember anything!

Talk about the painkillers they can offer you.

Make sure you’ll give them all the information they needs to help you.

You’ll be explained what they’ve found and done for you while you are still drowsy but give you the letter explaining and if you won’t understand because of drowsiness and can’t focus properly then you can always contact them to explain or you to share any concerns after that.

But they are usually very lovely.

Nurses will look after you if anything.

You may have to wait a bit sometimes because of they are dealing with so many other patients at the same time.

It doesn’t mean they don’t care about you.

But if you won’t ask, they will not know your needs.

Then if you’ll be heard but they are too busy and tell you to wait then just relax, lay down and take any offers that they’ll give you eg, a cup of water, biscuits etc if you need maybe in advance!

Make sure have someone to pick you up.

Maybe while you are waiting now, get things ready for tomorrow at home like things you love in place to make your home comfy as possible to just put your mind into it and talk about it to anyone who care for you! 🙂

Also share here is helpful that I found 🙂

I’m newbie here, haha.

Wish you a very very best of luck! ✨❤️❤️✨

I took my iPad with me when I had mine done in 2019 and watched films until it was my time to go in. I told the nurses I’m scared of needles and having the fear of the loss of control of what’s going on. They reassured me and told me that I will be fine and they told me to talk about a holiday or something then I fell asleep.

When I woke up in the recovery room, I was in a lot of pain and crying so I got morphine and buscopan before I could relax. I was in the hospital maybe for 3 hours after the op before they called my dad to pick me up.

For tonight just watch Netflix a series or do something that makes you happy to not think about tomorrow. Best of luck!!

Hey thank you for your message. Did you have trouble going to the toilet for number 1 and 2 afterwards? And also how long was your recovery?

When I went to the toilet for a number 1 in the hospital, it was hard to sit down on the toilet seat. For number 2 I had to use laxatives as I was constipated for 3 days after the op.

I was on all the painkillers they gave me for the 1st week then the 2nd week I tried not to take much of them. I took 2 weeks off work and I felt like myself again around 5-6 weeks post op.

Hi there, I had my first laparascopy done last month , it was the first time for me as well to be put asleep. I was also very nervous too, tried to relax and play on the phone, but the nurses were coming and going. Thinking back I should not have been so nervous. Everyone was really lovely and relaxing, everything was well explained and while I was being put asleep was having a nice conversation with the anaesthetic doc. I fall asleep within seconds, the next thing i remember I was already after surgery. I would say just smile and be really positive, it will all be fine!!! You may feel a little overwhelmed and emotional after the surgery when you wake up, but that is normal. I wish you good luck!!!

Hi lovely ,

Being put to sleep was what I was most scared about and I went in really anxious . However once the staff knew that , they were amazing . They were laughing and holding my hand etc. Before I knew it I fell asleep and woke up absolutely fine . Try to just go in knowing that the professionals know what they are doing and will keep you safe . Think of it like a really peaceful sleep dx

Hi

I hope this helps I had this surgery and endometriosis removed 5 weeks ago, I was super nervous too, I had to go on my own with everything going on with covid, but I promise you there’s nothing to worry about, I was more nervous about being out to sleep but honestly it took seconds and next thing I was awake, you’ll wake up feeling groggy more disoriented I’d say, but the actual being put to sleep and waking up is honestly fine, totally sympathise, but you will be ok and good luck x
