birth control and unusual periods

hey, i have not yet been 100% diagnosed with endometriosis however my doctor thinks that with my symptoms i probably have it. i was given birth control (first combined now progesterone only) to help with my painful and heavy periods as it got to the point where i was having to have days off from school. the combined pill didn’t work so i was given the progesterone only pill, this stopped my period for about 4/5 months but then about 2 weeks ago my period came back but different than how it used to be. i had pretty bad lower back pain but my cramps didn’t occur. however, i noticed my blood was black/brown. at first this didn’t bother me because my periods used to start with a bit of black/brown blood and then turn red however this time it’s stayed black/brown for the entire time. this has now been happening for 2 weeks, the amount changes out of no where, i could have a few days where there was barley any blood and other days where that was more in comparison (however it’s never been extremely heavy.) could this be linked to endometriosis or an effect of the pill i’m on? is it normal for blood to be this colour for so long and has anyone else experienced this too?

Hi, I’ve had a similar thing except I’m on the implant which doesn’t work well for me at all - in terms of moods/ anxiety but also I’ve been having the dark brown/ black blood. It always comes aswel after exercise usually. I was unsure too whether this was just the endometriosis or if it was the implant as I’m aware that it can make your periods vary and no two months can be the same. I’ve had the dark blood at times for 3 weeks at a time (albeit not heavy or a lot) but it lingers and means always needing to wear a sanitary pad.

Hi👋🏻 I have the mirena coil and it’s progesterone based. I too have brown blood spasmodically. So it seems it could be your progesterone pill. However, I’m not a doctor it’s just supposition. If your worried give your GP a visit to put your mind at rest😊

Hey I’m on the Mirena coil also. And my blood is mostly brown, ii use to have 3 days or so of brown blood. One day of red and then another 3 of brown, it’s bizarre. Sometimes just brown. Although Iv had the Coil for quite a while and now ii have brown discharge instead of a period. That last around a week. Xx
