Cackling myself

So just had to confirm my surgery day for a Total hysterectomy, removal of cyst, excision of endo and seperation of my bowel and bladder off my uterus and section scar.

Anyone under Mr Aty at Burnley Hospital?? How was the recovery?

I guess I’m just having pre-op nerves. Obviously I’m hoping to come out of this with less pain in my lower back but I’m worried I’m going to make things worse by having an Op.

X

hey, wow that's a lot you're having done.

Just wanted to say from someone that's had two laps and has back pain with endo; the surgery will make it worse but not because of the endo. It'll get better once your endo / adhesions / scarring is removed.

I had lower back pain for years and more so after both my laps and didn't realise what it was or why I wasn't getting better until seeing my doc and then seeing a physio - I had to pay for one as the NHS was saying my lower back pain isn't bad enough to have theirs. Basically physio said that due to being laid out during the lap, recovery, and having incisions in the core, plus endo bloating and irritation all the muscles in the core are weak, which results in the lower back compensating. This means the back becomes irritated, and inflames, which traps any nerves that run through it. My physio specialist says he sees it in a lot of women, and for some reason docs won't think of mobility and moving it so just keep giving painkillers.

I've been having physio and going to core strengthening classes with the aim of making me aware of my core muscles (abs) using them correctly to support my lower back. It's helping massively, it is slow progress probably because I've had my back pain for years and didn't really give it much thought.

I'd definitely say be prepared for back problems, but after any operation see a movement / mobility specialist (they often do sports injury and massage plus yoga) to look at what the ops have affected and what you can do to recover. I wish I'd done it sooner!

Give yourself a few months to recover though - let things settle with your endo symptoms and your hysterectomy, plus any medication as it can take up to 4 months to recover from the lap, and a few more to get used to medication.

Just an honest answer to your question but a path to recover too xx

Thanks hunny. I have rods in my lower spine also tho so not sure yet whether the pain is from endo or my rods lol. The hospital already know to put pillows under my knees during lap and recovery. But yes I will seek alternative therapy when I’m more mobile. Xxx
