Hi, I've been on endo diet for 10 days but still getting worse (current trend), how long do people find it takes for it to help?

Hi hope

I'm on the endo diet as well, I previously did it for about 6 months when my endo was at its worse and it was about 4 weeks before I started noticing any benefits and gradually it had more and more effect. This time round I felt a lot better within the first few days but I wasn't in such a bad place to start with this time. Just remember that its not going to have miracle effects but with a lot of us it does help over time, theres no hard medical evidence that the endo diet works to stop the progress of endo, its more a common trait that a lot of people have some intolerance to wheat etc and that certain foods like dairy are inflammatory so cutting these out may make you feel better.

Another thing to watch out for is wheat is in a lot of things, when I first started the endo diet I was surprised at how many things wheat is in, definitely not just the obvious things like bread, pasta etc, need to look out for gravy, stock, sauces etc.

Good luck with it, if you can try to keep it going for at least a few more weeks, its made such a difference for me x

Hi hope,

I started the endo diet a few weeks ago but I recognise that it will take time and could only be a supporting measure. I also think that the diet alone is not sufficient. I am under the care of a chinese medicine practitioner and she also gives me acupuncture. I intend to start yoga and find a course in mindfulness. At the moment I am investigating various additional nutritional supplements and I will try to find a nutritionist or someone experienced in this who can help me. I am also starting to cut out toiletries with parabens and SLS.

Everyone is different. Some people see instant change and others take time to see the effects. If you've been eating a certain way all your life it will take your body time to adjust and it might even protest at first and make you feel worse to begin with. This might explain why you feel you are getting worse.

It's a case of finding our own way by trial and error e.g. I have a feeling that cutting out dairy might not be working for me so I will start to reintroduce it to see what happens. Some people find that pulses and legumes cause them problems. At some point I intend to cut these out to see what happens but nothing is set in stone for me.

Stick with it and be patient. Observe what you think works best for you and good luck. Let us know how you get on.

Thank you,

I actually already had a diet that's wheat free most days and with minimum dairy for other reasons... I also only eat red meat once or twice a year when eating out! So I guess if my diet already ticks the boxes there is less likely to be a notable response to the changes.... hay ho! We just get desperate enough to try don't we? I will press on but maybe still have my weekend chocolate treat :-)

Having said that I have got to nearly 50 before being diagnosed, so maybe it stopped it spreading more quickly over the years! On the up side I had my second prostap inj this morning... any day now I'll be on the UP!!!!

All the best with your recovery

Another thing to watch out for is soya. It is quite a lot of things too. O what fun we have x

Hi hope it might be worth considering the type of endo symptoms you want to reduce. For me its the IBS symptoms that are the most problematic so i also looked into a diet called FODMAP. Many things prmoted on endo diet are a no-no on FODMAP (eg onion / garlic) so for me its getting the right balance for me. Good luck with it xx

My bloating with Ibs and Endo , severe stages is getting bad this week! I had an oblation and its helped for 2 1/2 yrs. No bleeding, pain... now Im having pain in sex and bloating for a week. It wasn't removed during my lap. because it was all over the place, ovaries, bowel, and it will be a month out of work for the surgery and Im 54 they said it slows down at that point, 2% change it would keep growing.... I thinks its growing, no pain just pressure and bloating, Ibs as well
