Routine, rest, good diet and mental and physical exercise where possible. It takes time, I'm in my fifth year and still making progress. (Can walk, talk and handle a fork)
I'm 74, my memory is very poor and I'm very susceptable to infections and have to take my temperature every day and take antibiotics early on. Otherwise I end up with a temperature of 40c and have be rushed to hospital for an IV drip.
I was in a critical condition last time and organ failure was a real possibility. So I was happy to make a recovery. The ward was for the elderly and very noisy. I've been out nearly a week and feel great.
I find that if I get an infection and take ABs, or sleep for 12 hours or so, there is an improvement in my mental an physical condition. (odd)
Try Scrabble, dominos, cards etc. I find the internet very stimulating - news, opinions and bargains.
Best Wishes everyone - G2

Glad you’re feeling better, Gandalf. You might enjoy this chess website. It’s free to play as long as you choose the ‘Play Computer’ option.
I was useless at the beginning , and lost every time playing with the online computer ‘Beginner’ or ‘Coach’. I now play the Intermediate level. My brain always feel wiped out after a seizure, but playing chess gradually gets it back in gear .
Thank you HSE, I had a go and it was quite enjoyable. I did lose and had several blunders, some mistakes and gained a few pieces. Not bad for a first try and it's very supportive when you don't know all the rules.
I'm going to try to cancel YouTube Premium today - that should keep me busy, along with World news! Best Wishes, G2
I found the website after being stuck at home after a bad seizure last December . It’s been an enjoyable 10 month journey for me relearning how to play basic chess . I love the fact you play completely at your own pace, with no time limits. There’s also a ‘move back’ arrow, so I could cancel a disastrous move, with no one watching my daft mistakes. 😊
To you and HSE survivor. These are really cheery posts. Thank you. Just what I needed after a tough 6 months. (Thankfully coming to an end now). I’m definitely going to look at the chess website. I love that I can cancel a disastrous move. I used to love chess but not played for years. Onwards and upwards to all of us!
Hi Wyella. I’m sorry to hear you’ve had a tough 6 months. The encephalitis recovery journey feels like a roller coaster ride sometimes, with all the ups and downs it involves. Good luck with playing chess ; and don’t be hard on yourself if it takes you a while to recall all the moves . Definitely onwards & upwards! 😊
