what does this mean. There is a focal area of cortical loss at the lower pole of the left kidney consistent with scarring. thanks

the cortex is the outer area of ur kidneys, which is where filtering takes place, so sounds like part of ur left kidney isnt cleaning the blood very well, the scarring could be from kidney infections, or reflux where the urine flows back into the kidney, hope this helps.

thankyou its all new to me this is what my scan results said i found out today after months of pain. My doctor was sick when i went for results at 3 today so a stand in doctor just gave me the results and wants a urine test done now and then see my own doctor to find out whats what this is all so new to me and hard to understand. thanks

try not to worry till you've spoken to you're dr and got all the info, it could be you only have trouble with the 1 kidney and i know you're in pain with it but you can lead a perfectly normal life with 1 kidney, should you need more info or support there are always people on this forum happy to help, good luck julie, let us know how you get on.
