I watched a program a couple of weeks ago about a young chap who was an altruistic donor, it was facinating
So did I there is another program on itv at 7:30 , it's great it's getting the news out there
It is great that more people are becoming donors. My 15month old son as ARPKD and will need a transplant very soon. I am going to be his donor.
It is really fantastic to read abut altruistic donors when I remember how hard it was just to encourage people to carry donor cards in the mid-1970s. For what it's worth I have been on dialysis since the age of 20 in 1976. I eventually received a successful transplant which lasted long enough for me to build a chiropodist practice, marry and have 3 healthy children, now nearly all in their 20s. Back in those prehistoric years, seat belts weren't mandatory so most cadaver transplants came from car crashes during Christmas time.
I'm still going strong at 56 and hope this will give encouragement to younger patients especially since tissue typing and anti-rejection drugs have advanced tremendously.
Hrodebert for the win! Great post
I have a friend who is recieving a kidney from a live donor in a few weeks. Fingers crossed everything goes well.
