This is from HelioNews a website that publishes news about medical information and studies that benefit patients with multiple conditions. The tilte of the article is “Mediterranean Diet Named Best Overall Diet for 6th Straight Year” but at the bottom of the article are links to additional for plant based, heart health, T2D and many others. Plus there are studies supporting the information. Maybe this will add additional information for those with questions about what to eat with CKD. Hope it helps! Link:

I agree that a Mediterranean diet is the best for long range nutritional health. Things might have to be limited depending on other comorbidities such as high potassium and diabetes. I have found that totally giving up all animal products is not sustainable long term. So, adding eggs and chicken and some fish has its benefits in moderate amounts. I do not use processed products either for the most part. I think we will see Plant-based going the way of Atkins and other extreme diets. OK short term, not long term.

I think it works for some people but I know it did not work for me. I can't get the calories I need. My serum ALB is way too low and now my serum sodium is low again. It did nothing to slow my kidney disease but if it works for others wonderful.

Diet doesn’t make much difference in my disease either. I’ve done the plant based and try to stick to a modified Mediterranean mostly. However, when I do labs after 6 months on the different diets, eGFR, UCAR, urine protein and other labs are the same as when I am on my normal diet. Each of our CKD is “personalized”…,lol!
