I think they have to have everything up to date to make sure you are fit enough for transplant before you even go on the list you have to have up to date chest xrays bloods etc

Hi

Its always good to know the reason for the various tests that we have as kidney patients. It helps us to understand and appreciate the necessity for having them. It's horrible just going through the motions because you're told to.

I'm at stage 5 now and am having an xray as part of checking I'm suitable for transplant. Haven't had one for any other reason since diagnosed but I'm sure there are other reasons to have them as kidney patients.

Sometimes they are very busy at the hospital. Like the time I met my transplant coordinator in the waiting room and she reeled off a number of tests I needed and then dashed off; clearly she was rushed off her feet that day. I was a bit shell shocked and couldn't remember them all having been told like that. Some I just had to drop in for and others I needed an appointment for. Thankfully, a couple of days later I had a letter listing them again and telling me how and when to attend.

Do you have your own allocated nurse who you could call to ask?

Family can be a great support and an essential component to our wellbeing. However, it can also be difficult for them to understand exactly what we're going through. I find its good to have a mixture of contacts including key professionals at the clinic. This forum also has people with a wealth of knowledge about kidney failure. There's always someone who has experienced something that concerns you too; a great bunch of folks.......
