Sunday the 21st April saw 34,631 brave individuals take on the famous 26.2 miles that is the London Marathon; four of which were dedicated Dyslexia Action supporters.

Spirits were high on the day as over 700,000 spectators took to the sunny streets of the capital to cheer on the runners and also show their support to hundreds of causes, all contributing to the millions of pounds raised each year by this prestigious event.

I am pleased to report that our runners performed exceptionally well. John, a ballot runner, managed to achieve his goal by running in less than 4 hours, completing the race in an astonishing 3hr 54 minutes. Michael, who works for KPMG and came to us through the recent partnership managed to smash his fundraising target and has (so far!) raised an astounding £2,145. Not to mention James and Lizzie who also managed to complete the race and raise vital funds for the charity.

So far, the marathon has raised nearly £6,000 for Dyslexia Action with more funds coming in over the next few weeks. As a result of Sunday’s race, we have also already received several enquiries into next years’ race and also other competitive runs that we as a charity take part in. Therefore, I think it is safe to say, that the 2013 London Marathon has been a great success for Dyslexia Action.

Looking forward onto the race next year, the official ballot opens Monday 29th April at 9am at viriginlondonmarathon.com and we are currently encouraging potential runners to enter this ballot as it strengthens their chances of receiving a space in the 2014 race. It is important that they enter as soon as possible as the ballot filled up last year in a record 17.5 hours!

As well as this, we also have an application system for our Gold Bond spaces next year which those interested can receive by emailing myself (dperrin@dyslexiaaction.org.uk) or calling the Fundraising Team on 01784 222338.
