Hi. I’m not too good at moment thank you for asking. I am now on day 8 of no alcohol and feeling awful, worse than when I was drinking! How ironic is that? I had my first AA meeting yesterday which I’m not sure yet what to make of it. My minds still processing that one.

Hope you are ok. Take care.

Well done on attending an AA meeting. That’s a big step forward. Very brave.

It’s not surprising you’re feeling bad - so many of your routines are being disrupted: mental, physical and possibly social.

Focus on why you’re doing this during the hard moments.

Thank you HeavyFoot,

yes I know you are right. Socially I’ve been affected for years now I isolated myself totally from everyone. Mentally this has affected me but drinking heavily alone on a daily basis did me no favours at all, I know that and part of the reason why I woke one day and thought no more.

Physically I feel so tired constantly to the point I don’t even want to get out of bed most days. I long to feel energised and refreshed again. I was naive enough to think this would begin to happen after a few days (how stupid am I ?).

I am trying to take this on a daily basis and focus on other things but feel I’m sinking into a black hole which feels like another battle to take on.

I will continue to battle my way through this though and hoping I don’t relapse.

It’s not uncommon to feel worse before you feel better. Taking away the numbness that alcohol furnished you with for so long uncovers the damage that it left. Mind and body. You’ve denied yourself important nutrients and eating better will help with that. AA helps with the alcohol problem, but therapy will help with the psychological problems that alcohol can create or had exacerbated the problems that existed when you started drinking. Even if you do relapse, keep on going. Each day is a new beginning and as long as you’re alive, there’s always hope and another chance to start again. Whenever you go to a meeting, talk to another recovering alcoholic or see your therapist is a positive in your life and soon the positives will become more than the negatives. Positive action makes you feel stronger. Keep moving those legs and the mind will eventually follow.

Thank you. I will keep on trying. I’m struggling with the eating at the minute, I don’t feel hungry at all but am trying to eat a little as I know that will just probably make me worse. I drink coffee at the moment not sure if that’s increasing my constant headache but don’t really fancy anything else to drink except the obvious.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful words though.
