Is Nepro High Protein safe to take for a 76 year-old that recently started dialysis?

My dad just started dialysis. Is Nepro High Protein a safe and good supplement to take? How about Low Protein? Our city went on lockdown and we can't even contact our nephrologist. He was also treated for gout and contracted pneumonia a few days after leaving the hospital, so got hospitalized again for another week. Sometimes he has trouble keeping solid food down. Thank you.

Yes it was designed for kidney patients whether on dialysis or not. It is low in potassium and it is low in phosphorus, two of the key things to look at when choosing foods to include in his diet.

He should be getting a lab draw every month, which will cover tests used to indicate how well he is doing on his diet. His renal dietitian at the clinic will interpret those results and give him recommendations. If you are his caretaker, you may want to see if you could talk to the dietitian separately,

or while they are there talking to him during treatment.

The taste of Nepro Isn't the best thing in the world. There is another supplement that is primarily just protein and nothing else. So if he totally refuses Nepro on the basis of taste, Check with his dietitian for an alternative. In my personal experience the butter pecan flavor of Nepro What is the only flavor that I can get down. It was made even better with a scoop of chocolate ice cream! Ice cream is it normally on our diets, but I haven't been eating for weeks and they were happy to get anything in me.

I hope that answer your question.
