Hi. I'm new at this and i've been on dialysis for 6month now. And during all that time i have never had a blown vein during dialysis...well it happened 2 days ago...the wierd part about it was that i got a big lump on my shoulder over my heart..that concerned me....it slowly going away now..but i want to know if that is normal...or the tech pumped air into my fistula?..anybody had that problem?

Hi, not had the same experience but have had two blows when first starting HD, occurred with “sharps needles” and moving my arm so vein ruptured, passed out. Outcome really bad bruising around the fistula access, given a creme to help with the bruising.

Not uncommon when first starting HD dialysis. Placed an ice pack on the blow immediately to reduce the swelling.

I now dialyse at home and needle myself with blunts.

Dialysis is massive and takes a little getting used to, best wishes and good health

Philip

Thank you for responding..i'm in a third world country and i guess that some of the techs are not experienced..i'm thinking about learning how to pinch myself with the needles..thanks
