Hi everyone, just a quick question. My father stated dialysis 2 days ago at the hospital but he's has been hallucinating and very drowsy. He's normally independent but he's not left his bed since. Is that normal? I'm worried abt him.

It can be normal for someone who is just starting dialysis. It can be overwhelming and he likely feels poorly from all the toxins etc. Are they giving him any new medications? Have you spoken with his doctors or nurses about the hallucinations? He should be walking the halls if allowed and doing his own hygiene routine etc. Most on dialysis do suffer from depression at one time or another so this should also be addressed. I usually tell people it takes about 3 months or so to get into a good routine and begin to feel better. Have you tried kidneyschool.org ? It may help educate you both and alleviate some of the confusion and worry. Keep letting us know how it goes with your Dad. Blessings

Thank you very much for ur reply. I hope ur feeling ok urself. They haven't told us much about anything yet. They even haven't trained us to use the machine yet they keep putting it off. I just came from hospital just now n told the doctor that we need to kno how things are working. Hopefully tomorrow they will start to train using it. I'll definitely check out the site u gave me. Thank u very much.
