Second chance fistular fitted: Can any one... - Dialysis Support
Second chance fistular fitted
yes, been having dialysis for nearly nine years, CAPD/APD for four years and haemodialysis for the rest and current.
Generally the hardest part for some people to accept is that your life will be changed, but, the way I looked at it was and still is, it's better than being terminally ill or dead, a bit blunt but it's true.
It's not unusual for this to piss you off, big time. When this happens, if it does, speak to your friends, nurses and your GP. You will find lots of support, other patients are very good, they have been where you are, so know what it's like.
There is always the option of receiving a kidney transplant, I had one of these 26 years ago, and apart from taking lots of tablets and regular check ups, you are pretty much back to normal, my transplant last 17 years, some not so long, and many have lasted longer.
I guess you are feeling quite ill, after a few dialysis sessions you will start to feel better.
Try to be positive, there are worse things to have.
good luck
Clem
