which cooking oil is best for diabetics?
diabetis: which cooking oil is best for... - Diabetes India
diabetis
Any traditional oil id good enough for cooking in moderation.
Peanut oil, Mustard oil, Coconut Oil are all good traditional oil .
Problem is not in the natural oil, but in its solvent & chemical extraction and masking and dosing of it by proving wrong as right.
Olive is no better than Mustard or Peanut, but it is touted these days aggressively as there is a lot of money to be made in it by scaring you sick for healthy heart etc.
No one heard of Soya Oil, Palm Oil or Sunflower Oil even five decades back & yet world had lesser health problem then than now.
Got the picture?
Problem of our research institution is that we have hardly any originality and thought in our conduct and researches.
We reject our traditional wisdoms for some heavily propounded marketing blitz taken by MNC's.
We pick up a lead from the western contemporary fancies that are largely sponsored by interested industrial lobbies.
And my strong conviction is that sensing excess of demands and supplies over an extended extrapolation, researches are funded and "results" are furnished to excite and scare the gullible mass that is 98% .
Classic case being Palmoline oil & our pure desi ghee.
Palmoline oil was used as a machine lubricant in North america and Canada & when the output started growing of palm kernels and was providing healthy returns to planters, they just did some research and found it fit for human consumption after doing the necessary deodorizing & bleaching.
And now that has become a mainstay of oil in most middle class kitchen in emerging markets & third world countries.
When alternative cheaper cooking medium became mainstay the butter was getting less and less sold & synthetically margarine was produced by hydrogenation & with colouration and flavour so much so that it became a standard on breakfast table in lieu f butter because it purportedly contained "better" health protective properties.
Zero cholesterol & PUFA, UFA etc . became a topic of daily TV debate & incessant advertisement beams in living rooms 24X7. It influenced the mind & the objective was met. More sales of excess productions.
All the while , the world started taking skimmed milk etc & as a result a mountain of butter piled up in millions of tons in Scandinavian milk producing countries, including New Zealand, Australia & North America.
Suddenly, Palmoline and other oils were found to be less good than originally envisaged. And butter & clarified butter/ gee that was the untouchable, became suddenly the epitome of healthy virtues & its started finding favours with a bang & all the extra butter that piled over decades are now sold within few years and now it is considered good once more!!!
Similar are the cases with drug discoveries and ailment inventions .
AIDS & ARV being classic case. I still believe that due to social orgies and sex became so much of a social menace in western world that was aped in Africa & some parts of Asia, some good churches spotted a new fear to stop the menace & bring some virtues and values of social orders.
So AIDS became a new ailment that gets transmitted by body fluids, especially unprotected sex so promiscuity dropped out of fear.
But look at the classic blind-side by a deliberate "research"where other body fluids will lead to AIDS, but not kissing.
Why, because that is long tradition in Christian world so it was hard to banish kissing readily. So it was excluded from the AIDS causing list.
As if saliva is a divine fluid!!!
And see how US FDA revises the parameters of health checks. So if you reduce the BP from earlier considered 90/140 as normal when you bring it down to 110/70 or sugar RBS as 130 from 170 earlier would automatically bring in new patients on screening who are "out of parameters" to new millions of patients & therefore, push drugs to them to keep the capitalist ambitions alive.
So I hope you get the picture of what I mean.
Thanks for your response.
You are right , I used the term Palm & Palm olien interchangeably , as it was not a technical forum, which is not correct.
Actually, from CPO (crude palm oil) we normally get 94% RBD (refined, bleached & deodorized ) palm & 6% PFAD. From the RBD we normally get 58% palm olien that constitute the palm oil & rest stearin that goes into fat processing along with some RBD palm & PFAD goes for soap manufacturing.
In all derivative results of science , results are based on observation, hypothesis and a lot of clinical evidences are generated and equal number of empirical results & deductions.
On certain issues , we have to agree to disagree. That is perfectly acceptable to me.
We both have derived our conclusions with our own readings & perspectives out of it & none are wrong and debate can continue , but not necessary.
Thanks & regards, Rajeev
