Ask the doctor! I perceive the fasting, PP and Random tests give an idea. I too would like to know the exact answer/test.

Insulin resistance can be calculated. Insulin, c-peptide measurement and actual BS levels after meals can give idea about insulin deficiency.

Never heard doctor suggesting testing for IR. The treatment is only for symptoms.
Most inefficient doctors prescribe medicines based on FBS and PLBS,which is wrong. HBA1C is the test to determine seriousness of diabetes and then diagnose.
