Damage caused by diabetes and smoking to the nerve ends and blood capillaries is very similar. That means you are compounding the diabetic complications by having both. Also, alcohol and diabetes do not go together.Alcohol adds useless calories to your system which aggravates your diabetes unless burnt up by adequate physical activity. Also alcphol spikes the blood sugar immediately after consumption and it drops suddenly after some time leading to complications and your efforts towards diabetes management will go hay wire.Best avoided for healthy and trouble free life.

It is very very very serious. I know at least four persons close by who went blind.

Pl get your eyes checked every six months by an eye specialist. Apart from that, there are many problems which may occur: Kidney, Liver, Heart etc.

It is the immense self-care (under guidance from a diabologist) that is troublesome.

Rest as you wish.

Surprised to read even after BS PP 263, with smoking and occassional drinking and no walk, no excercise, you have not taken medical advice. Please rush to Specialist doctor's advice.

Diabetis is silent killer. It is very serious. You have to face diabetis seriously before it takes over your life.

The complications are serious & that too very serious. I am 52/3 today, I had similar issues, but, unfortunately, do continue to smoke still. I have faced acute consequences and have already paid an irreversible price in terms of health to the extent that I have started hating myself. Nerve damages, atherosclerosis, blocked heart arteries & subsequent a bypass surgery and later vascular complications leading to gangrene and toe amputations are the consequences that I have faced and all were correlated to diabetes & smoking by the doctors, who are best in the business anywhere in the world. So first thing you should do is to minimise/ quit smoking, keep your BP in control, manage your sugar levels with a target of H1ABC of 8 or below. Most importantly try to remain stress free and take as much green vegetables, pulses, lean meat & fish as you can and minimise on starch like, rice, wheat, maize, etc. You would remain OK for a long time. Sad part is that these advices are hardly heeded that were being given to me for last 15 years, a time frame that declared me diabetic & I kept ignoring them. High stressed job, high flying corporate life, flying 100 days in a year to all global cities for years together, free good five star food, companions and adequate drinks etc, smooth cars and company and hardly any need to do labour or exercise but busy in work from 7 AM till 1 AM in the night almost everyday. Everyone else won by the business I created and did, but I lost my war and today & no one comes today to tell me that we feel sorry for you. I hate myself for paying such a high price for so little that I attained. Wish I had less money and a sound health today, I would have been happier. So friend, this is a life story and not just a advice that you can get in abundance on this forum, from frivolous to serious, but one thing is common; NEVER IGNORE YOUR HEALTH & DIABETES. CONSEQUENCES ARE FAR MORE OVERWHELMING THAT YOU FATHOM NOW.

Dear Mr. Venugopal, For me the language of truth is simple and any thing else is just a hyperbole to create a posture for ourselves, the precursor for stress and beginning of the downfall of the health. Diabetes is just one part of it. Thanks for you honest & sincere opinion. Kind regards, Rajeev

Boss, 6 becomes a theory, I tried but it increases complications for diabetics. It transpires to to average blood glucose of less than 125, which is actually low, though doctors have that bench. But at 8 your ABG is about 180, which is marginally higher than random max prescribed, but is more manageable for a diabetic having PP of 280+. This should be a practical first target that is not so hard to attain, next target should be 7, which is ideal. 6 is essentially a non diabetic parameter and a person having that kind of HBA1C would hardly need any medicinal intervention. This was just a practical advice gauging the lifestyle of the person seeking some advice, I hope you appreciate that. Thanks for the response. I hope the person gets some practical wisdom in managing diabetes from these postings by the members.

Bhai, it is good if v die suddenly. It is curse if v die after struggle for existence. Ur smoking is poison, Occasional drink or two may be OK but it is not good for diabetics, PP 263 is not so much. Medicines can do the trick. U may consult Doc who may prescribe another medicine with Glucobay. Pl discontinue smoking and drinking. I repeat sudden death at any age is good for self. But dying with protracted illness is a unparalleled sin. When near ones pray for ur death it is most unfortunate. So what is in ur hands, please take care, Diet control, abstinence from smoking and drinking is in ur hands. Do ur part and leave rest to God. Pl dont mind my harsh language.
