Actually it tastes great if you have it with regular dal, sambhar and veggies.

why?

Can you consume this porridge daily twice a day along with some vegetables. It will be a sticky substance. No doubt it will definitely benefit.

Yes sure. Tell me how to make it please.

Gentleness100 profile image
Gentleness100 in reply to

kclvbn has mentioned how to make it. Keralites usually like to have Kanji, so this stuff is not difficult for them to have on a regular basis, but for others it may not be suitable daily.

in reply toGentleness100

Pls tell me proper /detailed way to make, KCLVBN is kind but hard pressed for time. I love Kerala food if it tastes real Kerala style. So Pls tell properly. Thanks in advance.

Wash the wheat thoroughly and soak it over night covered with a lid. In the morning pressure cooker for 20-25 minutes.. Use the same water and into it add a little salt. Cook on medium flame. Grind it in the mixer and eat with any vegetable or curry. Shooter George has given a detailed method of cooking this. Please refer to his posts. If you are fond of kerela food then add coconut in all your curries and vegetable and with very little masala, that turns out to be kerela style food.

It is known as Khapli Gehun here. I understand that there is a merchant(s) in Market Yard who store this in a cold storage as it is seasonal ( Season is Feb-March-April) and prone to infestation. If you can locate other sources please do let us know also. Vithal Gangaram Mankar Kirana Stores, Kasturi Chawk, (Near Ranka Jewellers) Ganesh Peth is also having this. His nos are 02026386428/26. He sells Khapli Gehun @Rs60/ kg and atta @Rs.65/kg. Tell him to supply you with the bran (atta or the gehun) as Fiber is all in the bran. He sells polished/pearlized also - for Khichda

To all on this forum - try jau (pronounced jaw)... post its pictures, and lets us ShooterGeorge or Anilgupta ji for confirmation. :-)

Jau is Barley, extremely healthy. In North where this grows abundantly Naturopaths and Ayurvedic Doctors prescribe Barley atta and small brown chana atta with whole wheat atta - 33% each. Shooter George advises his regime only b/f and dinner. For lunch, I have roti made from above. Aloso Jau are very good for kidneys. In summer it is ideal. Beer is made from Jau and also good for kidney (light version)

Hello uppala,

Thank you for the detailed reply.

Even though the quantity of LW used is correct, it is felt that what you are following IS NOT LWMDR but MODIFIED LWMDR :-)

LWMDR does not contain fruits or sweet items. Please see words in bold letters at item #1 of section appropedia.org/Diabetes_mel...

I feel that the fruits & biscuits are responsible for the increase of HbA1c from 6.7% to 7.2% in 4 months.

If you continue fruits & biscuits intake, the HbA1c may increase further.

What are the FBS & PPBS values during those 4 months?

Hi aatamdev,

Long Wheat Mash (LWM) is Long Wheat cooked in water. I do not know whether you can buy cooked Long Wheat.

As far as I know it is cultivated in Punjab & sent to other places.

At Bangalore it is available in the names Java Godhi, Jave Godhi or Samba Wheat.

Thanks for your kind gesture.I have seen the photograph 050 showing comparison between common wheat and long wheat.Being son of a farmer, I am certain that we in Punjab grow the wheat shown in the 1sth row and export to rest of the country. The second row gives the photograph of dehusked LW (grain) and the 3rd row shows LW unhusked. Can some body send 1 kg of LW grain. I have followed how to cook in water to get LWM.Further, the wheat commonly grown in Punjab has moustach type spikes at the time of harvesting.

HI Sir aatamdev,

I am from Mohali,Punjab. Is Long wheat hulled jaun? Where can I buy it?

Thanks

in reply tokbsingh1

My Dear that is Barley. You can Mix each 33% this with chana and gehun, add 5% methi dana, grind a bit coarse, preferably make tandoori,, roti apply ghee, make paratha and restrict your calories to max 100 GM. If there is BigBasket.com you may order Java Diabetes flour which is Khapli gehun. Otherwise this and see your sugar drops like a bag of sand. 😀😁😀keep morale high. We are all with you.

Jaffy profile image

Dear Anil Gupta,

I mixed multigrains and made flour. Eating chapatis without any oil of this flour increased my blood sugar.

Your suggestions will be appreciated...

cocosingh profile image
cocosingh in reply toJaffy

What multi-grains did you use? Were these different millet grains If so, please note these millets are very high in GI values (Glycemic Index), therefore, you need to add some other flours like Besan (gram flour) a little wheat flour, Oats and Barley and Rye flour (from flakes or grains) especially Oats and Barley as they have low GI which helps in bringing down the overall GI value.

Jits profile image
Jits in reply toShooterGeorge

Hi Sir

Can normal people without sugar problem also consume khapli wheat? I have diabetes but my family would also like to consume preparations made out of khapli wheat so as to avoid separate cooking.

Also, if I am not able to follow the complete course because of a lot of travelling that I have to do or because of lack of dietary control , will it have an adverse impact once I stop the therapy?

Regards

Jit

ShooterGeorge profile image
ShooterGeorge in reply toJits

@ Jits, Khapli Wheat (LW) is oldest, original, unmodified food grain. It has sufficient starch and other components. It is sold in open market as an ordinary food grain and NOT as a special item for treating Diabetes. So I do not think that nondiabetics taking it or discontinuance after taking it for some period will pose any problem.

I know some nondiabetic people taking Long Wheat. They are still continuing and has not reported any problem.

MOREOVER I HAVE DISCONTINUED AFTER TAKING LWM FOR THREE YEARS FROM 2006 TO 2009. EVEN NOW I AM NOT EXPERIENCING ANY PROBLEM. NOW IT IS SEVEN YEARS AFTER DISCONTINUING LWMDR.

Sholapur has quite a market for Khapli Gehun. The Pahalwans use it in place of normal wheat. The Bohri Moslems use it for Lapsi and Khichhda. Children in the house likely to grow taller and stronger. Dont fear bro.

I have no commercial interests.
