Rice and potatos are rich in carbohydrates and need insulin for metabolism i.e converting into energy. We diabetics are short in insulin supply and therefore it is essential that we cannot be liberal with carbohydrate rich foods.Eat as less as possible and with sufficient intervals between meals.

Regarding sugar free tablets, you can use in limited quantity ,not more than 5 per day.Avoid dishes which are sweetened with sugar free such as diet coke or sugar free cakes or jams.I follow this practice.Best avoid them.

a diabetic cant stop potato as its presence in body is impt the only thing to keep in mind is to either take less or mix with other vege like palak, ptagobi -----so that its sugar content get balance. in case rice option is either brown rice or the same i.e. mix with vege. as far as sugar free is concern i dont think so its needed and also after a certain period of time it may affect kidney

IT depend first of all on potato self as some potato r lready sweat enough to affect while others r tasteless or salty that never affect much.since the cost is more so whenever we r outside at some snacks or restaur they all prefer to use cheaper which they mix with some ingredi so that its not easy to judge . carbohydrate even little is must for body to sustain .

Sugarfree tablets from cadila is available in two forms.

1) sugarfree gold with aspertame

2) Sugarfree natura with sucralose.

Most of the people are using Sugarfree gold as it is costing less,

whereas Natura is costing more.

Internet results show that aspertame is dangerous to health and

sucralose is not that much.

stevia is also used by many people.Stevia is available in leaf or powder forms.

Being diabetic such carbohydrate rich food should basically be avoided to the extent possible. So called sugar free items too are not advisable as discussed much earlier in this forum. .

With LWMDR which cured my DM2, I was taking three carbohydrate meals daily, stomach full, of which one (lunch) was with rice & the other two with Long Wheat (Emmer Wheat); NO POTATOES OR ROOT/STARCHY VEGETABLES, NO FRUITS, NO SWEET - NATURAL OR SUGAR-FREE.

Yes you can have them in moderation without any problem. Modern diet plans actually include such carbohydrate & starch for better gut management. Quantity has to be limited. My personal experience with sucralose based sweeter has been good and far better than aspartame tablets with good tolerance. Liver toxicity however would be always be a relative subject. Talk to your doctor as well for a better advise.

I am a type 2 diabetic & taking rice twice daily but the quantity not exceeding 100 grams.potato occasionally,no sweets, one cup of tea with stevia as sugar substitute. One banana almost everyday but with lot of salad, veg & a cup of dal.Sugar is perfectly under control. But only with elopathic medicines.

All sugar free substitutes are bad. Some are known to be carcinogenic so they must be avoided.
