Rural people come to know of diabetes when there is plenty of sugar in urine inviting cluster of ants. Till then they do not know.

But one factor does help them. They walk a lot.

I agree with all the three replies here and wish to add a bit more. While 'regular medical checkup' is more prevalently done in Urban centres, it is far less in rural areas. We used to hear about Diabetes in elderly persons like "grandpa gets up many times during the night for urination' (Polyurea?) r 'grandpa suddenly lost his eyesight" (Diabetic Retinopathy' etc. In Karnataka (which I know fairly well) the diet of rural people is Ragi in south Karnataka and Jowar in north Karnataka and most of them do lot of physical work. That probably delays the onset of symptoms. Just because we don't have tangible data , we can't make qualitative statements like it is less in rural and more in urban (increased stressful lives apart).

Headline of this blog is a gross exaggeration!! All the following comments have been very scientific based on studies and survey. Rural/Urban is not much of a question nowadays, becoz the rural is not the same rural decades back...where physical activity was very high. Diab is a complex disease, multifactorial. Genes are an imp cause, diet&excercise play a very crucial role. I reckon, now in rural....they also hv got used to soda pops, chips. moving in bikes and cars with little walking. No wonder, docs say there has been a surge in last 5yrs or so....but a very imp factor, screening was not there in earlier yrs. More the screen

ing, more the no: cases will be revealed. Genetic as well as lifestyle disease.

The factor is not urban and rural rather is modern life style and the environment play a vital role for diabetes. If comparison is made in the % of rural and urban, certainly the gap is there. But even in the rural areas, where those have adopted modern life-style and inactive body, diabetics are there as well.

just curiosity: which city U based????? pls don't worry; pray, meditate, laugh/smile, remain jovial always, always!!!!!!!!!! worship your parents, take full care of them; remain wholly devoted to their well-being, total comforts; place before them all pleasures and amenities; if have monetary bliss, take them abroad to varied destinations, enjoy life; all your worries would freeze!!!!!!!!!!!! keep taking their blessings on daily basis throughout LIFE!!!!!!!!!
