Help!!Been diagnosed with post nasal drip finally after nearly 2yrs...suffer constant feeling of mucus trickling down back of throat, facial pain and frequent earache.Feels like I’m drowning in the mucus when I lie down to sleep.Have not had proper quality sleep for a long time.Feel urge to want to hack up this gunk and spit it out but can’t do this effectively.Tried everything to relieve symptoms antibiotics, antihistamine, nasal douche, cocodamol, herbal tablets from internet for pain had all the tests ,3ct scans, camera up nose allergy tests and still no relief.my condition is worsening and I’m now awaiting appointment with a neurologist. Its driving me mad and wearing me down.

Anyone out there got any answers or advice ?

Hi , Rustycat, Totally with you on this.Ive had the same for about 4years now.It drives me nuts. Exact same symptoms, causes coughing till my throats sore. If you ever find a treatment for it, I would appreciate it if you could let me know. And likewise for you.

Best wishes, Bandy!

Hello, if this condition is really driving you nuts and you are at the stage where you will try anything, here are some tips.

1) Stop drinking milk and milk products. (milk is the worst thing for mucus)

2) Buy a Neti Pot (you can get them quite cheaply online) Buy also the sachets of salt and bicarbonate of soda specially prepared for a sinus rinse to go with the Neti Pot. Buy a measuring jug and a Brita water filter jug plus charcoal. Filter some water then boil it in your kettle, pour a pint into your clean measuring jug, add and dissolve a sachet of salt and bicarbonate of soda then let it cool to blood temperature. Pour into Neti Pot, then with your head tllted to one side over the sink pour the solution slowly into one nostril, it will come out of the other. Blow your nose GENTLY. Do this once or twice, then change sides and do the other nostril. Salt dissolves mucus and also is a natural healer and cleanser. Do this procedure 3 times a day for the first 3 days, then twice a day for 3 more, then once a day until the mucus is cleared. (You can see this procedure on You Tube)

3) Buy some good multivitamin and mineral tabs. or caps. Take one a day.

4) Increase your dose of Vitamin D3 to 5,000iu. daily.

Try the above for two weeks and let us know if you feel better.

Thanks for the advice.I already do the nasal douche, been doing it for couple of months now and I can’t say it’s made an improvement. Also Taking a good multivitamin and mineral tablet but haven’t tried the increased dose of vitamin D so will give that a go .The dairy products are something I can try to avoid so would soya milk and soya spread be acceptable ?

You need to be seriously aggressive about this. Try using the Neti Pot on the regimen I recommended. Stop all milk products, (no substitutes) drink hot water instead. When I say milk, I mean MILK, not dairy, butter is OK and eggs.

You may balk at the hot water, but if you drink it at the temperature you normally have a cup of coffee or tea you will soon get used to it, It is the only thing I drink now (apart from the odd G & T). Add a dash of lemon juice if you must have some flavour. (A plus here, if you are eating out at restaurants they usually provide it free of charge). :)

In addition, try raising the head of your bed 4inches, that could help with the night time mucus.

Forgot to mention, if you are a smoker, please stop NOW.

I suffered for years with this . My GP prescribed Beconase, not sure if spelling is correct. I was told I might eventually not need it. Sure enough, after.2 years or so, I didn't need it anymore. Worth a try.

Thanks Bobbie....haven't tried Beconase ...will give it a go. ..is it as a nasal spray or drops ?

I had it in a spray. It doesn't work instantly but I found I gradually needed it less as time went on. Stopped using it about 2 years ago. Truly hope it works for you. Good luck.
