Diference betwen nerve damaged and hair cells damaged???

I used to think there were small hairs in your ears which helped you keep your balance. My audiologist said it is crystals not hairs which settle and help your balance. Whether this has any affect on your hearing an audiologist will explain it to you. I would advise you to go see one.
Hair Cells. A hair cell is a tiny nerve ending, which when pressed sends a signal to the hearing sensor in the brain, we have ..say 20.000 of them and they are triggered by a fluid which peaks a the given frequency level, and intensity, soft push for quite sounds hard push for loud sounds, these are being trigged off thousands of times which we learn as speech from a young age.. they have nothing to do with balance, the balance system sits on top of the nerve system and is controlled by a fluid, if you rock back and forth the body will produce more fluid to keep us stable, we can produce this fluid by many changes without rocking and the system become over full and then we get dizzy.. or sea sick, car sick
Thanks for the info. I have always believed we have hairs in our ears which help us to keep our balance until the audiologist told me it was crystals and not hairs. The cochlear is very badly damaged in my left ear and I'm partialy deaf in right ear I was also told this can affect balance. You seem to know a lot about hearing thanks again for info.
I went on the NHS site as something was bothering me about your post. We do have hairs and fluid in our ears which affect our hearing and balance (vertigo). The fluid acts like a spìrit level which is not leveled out when we bend and stand upright again This throws you off balance. The symptoms you described sound more like MS which my sister has. The nhs has a site nhs.uk or an app which gives all info under hearing.
