BG: symptoms 10 years, diagnosed July, 2011, now stage 2.
I have noticed swallowing problems at times, but nothing too serious. I notice that pills seem to stick to my tongue and don't go down as easily as they should. Also thick mucous at times. Over the past month or six weeks or so I have experienced increasing aching pain from my shoulders up the back of my head/neck. It's more difficult to turn my head from side to side, and I think this neck muscle involvement has to do with swallowing problems as well. I also chew gum and think it may help with swallowing.
I have about the same problem as Hukuto but also soods will get stuck in my throat partway down. Later on I will start coughing and what ever was stuck will come out. Anything from a small piece of nut or mashed potato to like yesterday a strawberry seed. At times I have choked as something has decided it wwants to go to my lungs but so far coughing has stopped it.Even saliva at times does that. Next month I go for swallowing teests and hope they can do something. Also once in a while food will go up into my nose instead of ddown. then it takes time to blow it out.
My mother uses a small slice of banana to cover the pills and it really helps with swallowing them. When my husband starts choking during meals, I insist that he wait out the choking period until the spasms stop entirely and then just drink water.
i suffer at night & often wake up choking then spend the rest of the night coughing up what ive breathed in the only solution ive found is doubling my pillows
