A cure means the removal of the causes of the symptoms of Parkinson's. However, since the causes are not yet fully understood, the cure cannot yet be precisely identified.

For those of us with PD, the removal of the symptoms (through medication or surgery) would be sufficient to call it a cure.

But, isn't this all semantics? Where does it lead?

Determination of the cause and the development of a vaccine to prevent the cause.

Second best would be a treatment such as with stem cells which allows regeneration of the appropriate brain cells.

Third best would be a medication which stops the progression once diagnosed.

Fourth best would be a good pill without side effects.

A cure for me would be to feel 'normal' again and to ensure that my family never get this terrible disease.

Stem cell intervention seems the most likely at the moment. People against this should try to live with PD for a while. If only this were possible!

A cure would be the removal of all causal factors, signs and symptoms of uncertainty, discomfort, to feel good again, free to chose my own path and sleep for a month without dreams. How did would be done....

It's an idiopathic disease, so eliminating the root causes would mean identifying these causes and remedying them. For those of us who suffer at present, remedial drugs without side-effects would help or a magic bullet to get back to the old me....

sorry I can't think anymore...

Prevention of neuron degeneration is the only thing I can think of that could prevent neuro-degenerative disease, or stop the progression. Regrowth of new neurons, in the form of stem cell implantation, if successful, would be great. Deep brain stimulation may help but I don’t believe that has been proven to be a cure. The secret to prevention of neuron degeneration is a million dollar question, for sure. I hope scientists can come up with something.
