What is the age range for early onset Parkinson's

Memory tells me it is anything 50 years or younger. I also recall that the young end of the spread was about 18 (?)

I once met a young man who was diagnosed at 18yrs after years of mis-diagnoses, it was very sad to see as

he had been prescribed drugs that caused him to have compulsive ga mbling side effects and he just. Narrowly missed a prison sentence. He was taken off them and ended up immobile at 18. The memory of him stayed my mind and I felt so sad , however this I believe thisbto be a rare occurrence.

As far as I know there's no fixed age range, although in the majority of cases it is over 50 years, I've also read that the average age of onset is 60 years old.

It's not unheard of for younger patients to get PD too, according to this, theparkinsonhub.com/daily-l..., around 5-10% of patients are less than 40.

18 seems very, very young and I'm sure it's very rare - but not impossible.

It might not have been on this forum but somewhere in the iterweb I encountered someone who's PD started when they were about 9.

I believe that by convention the cut-off age for young onset PD is 40. Also the average age I remember as 59.

I took part in Parkinsons UK Research and it was for people diagnosed before 50yrs of age.............i think this is the "cut-off"

I was dx at 45 and was considered early onset. Had it for 7 years now and just started experiencing severe symptoms during the past year. kept it pretty well under control before that. Now not so much. Going to discuss DBS with my neuro at my appt next Thursday. can't afford to retire or go on disability. Need to work for another 10 years or so but its becoming harder to function every day. Not sure how much longer I can go on in my current state.

Rainey, my symptoms started in my early 40's, became more severe at about 47. My tremors are better with Azilect, but other symptoms progress.

Most literature describes early onset before age 50 with 5-10% of cases being in this age group.

i was diagnosed at 44 and was considered early onset. that was 8 years ago and am currently taking 8 stavelo, 5 amantindene and 1 azilect daily and have dbs scheduled for march 27th of this year. have not been able to work since 11-02-12 and about ready to go crazy. i was not ready to retire

I was diagnosed with early onset ( or young onset ) at age 49 I think you are classed as having YOPD at age 65 and under

I was diagnosed at the age of 36 but had started with the symptoms 2 years earlier im 47 now. About 2/3 years ago i got talking to a man who at the parkinsons clinic with his 16 year old son. It was the young boy who had the parkinsons it was so sad his father was heartbroken
