The other evening just before bedtime I had terrible thoughts, it really worried me. First thought, I am soon taking a trip to see my elderly mother in Australia, I have done this trip so many times, sometimes alone, sometimes accompanied by husband friend etc. No problems.

This next trip I am doing alone, have ordered "airport assistance". Now I start to think , - I can't do it, I can't do it - But I know I can. I live in Sweden but are still an Aussie at heart.

Next thought, I got the feeling I was to die soon. The next morning, I was ok No problems. Haven't thought about it since. Has anyone else had this problem or is it "just Parkies again"

Panic attack at the thought of it all I suspect and your PD making it feel worse

You will be fine and stop worrying.

I wish you a wonderful safe journey I hope you find your mum well and happy.

Just perfectly normal common or garden anxiety.

If you feel anxious about things like this you can reduce the effect it has upon you by doing breathing exercises with certain rhythms or patterns. The common component of each pattern is that breathing out should be longer than breathing in

An example is 7/11 breathing where you breath in for a count of 7 and out for a count of 11. That one is kind of hard work. My preference is 4, 4, 6. This means breath in for a count of 4, hold that breath fora count of 4 then breath out for a count of 6.

This kind of exercise won't take away all anxiety - it just "keeps a lid" on it. And the more you practice which ever exercise you prefer the more effective it becomes. Also, You can enhance the efficacy of these exercises by visualising either real or imaginary places that are evocative of happy times.

So you may like to imagine being at a place where you have been on holiday. Or you may like to picture wandering round a particularly beautiful garden on a warm sunny day with with lots of scents from the flowers as you wander lazily round noticing all the different things stimulating your senses. Any kind of place or scene will do so long as it induces relaxation and maybe feeling kind of lost in the moment of your visualisation.

I haven't visited my mom (I'm in New York City , she's in southern Missouri) since April. I would normally go 2 or 3 times a year. The thought of going , flying, the van from St. Louis to her home 3 hours, staying in the extra room, my sister's 9 cats, plus I've had a bad ab problem . It was better. Now it's bad again. I don't want to go but I want to see my mom . She's 92. My daughter says she won't travel with me again. Let me know how it goes. I'm going to see counselor today and make reservation. I'm sure it will be fine if only I prepare.
