Has anyone had success at reducing thier ... - Cure Parkinson's
Has anyone had success at reducing thier tremor ?
Have a look on the website for the European Parkinson's Disease Association. It has a section on coping strategies which might help. My husband flicks his fingers for temporary relief. I have seen others use a stress ball in their tremoring hand.
yes got none sincehaving deep brain stimulation
DBS worked for me too
DBS how does that work?
I am on carbidopa/levadopa and that really has almost totally stopped my tremors. It actually is the fifth med I've tried and it seems to take care of all my symptoms so far. hope this helps.
YES! I AM PRESCRIBED SYMMETREL WHICH IS ALSO USED FOR PD ~ 100MG 2 TIMES DAILY AND IT IS GR88 AND I WAS A SEVERE TREMOR CASE...EVERYTHING SHOOK ~ BUT STEADY NOW AND CANELESS AT TIMES...I SEE MY NEUROLOGIST AS ORDERED AND HAVE BEEN DIADNOSED SINCE 2005 AND USED TO BE ON REQUIP YEARS PRIOR BUT WAS TAKEN OFF FOR NAUSEA ISSUES WITH THAT, ONLY AFTER A LONG TERM DIET AND LOSING A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF WEIGHT TO HELP MY HEALTH ISSUES. GOOD LUCK TO YOU MY FRIEND, ANY QUESTIONS ? FEEL FREE TO CONTACT :~) Mare
Many thanks for the info
Hamish, it looks like everybody does whatever works for them to get some sort of a break from these tremors. Mine is to take my meds and then raise my BP and heart rate by taking a walk or riding an excersize bike. I do this because laying around will take more time for the meds to get into my bloodstream. I guess we all must do what we have to in order to get some relief ! Good Luck!-Rickety.
Thank you for replying, what meds are you taking ?
Hi Hamish,I take carba levadopa CR(Sinemet), Mirapex and Comtan . I take them 4 times a day (every 6 hours) around the clock. Most Patients grow immune to their main PD med after 18 months,.....I have been taking Sinemet CR for 11 Years and counting! The reason for the "4 a days" is because the controlled release meds last a maximum of 6 hours per dose. IF you keep your body medicated all the time, that is less time you will have to fight the disease. 3 a days means your you're without the meds for a 6 hour period each day! I'd rather wake up in the middle of the night to take meds, than to wake up and have to start my day shaking. Parkinson's Disease is a schoolyard bully that doesn't sleep,....it loves to sneak into people's lives while they rest! Hamish, find your formula and don't waiver in your fight for a normal life! Good luck, and let me know if you need anything! Rickety.
I'm new to this but love it so far, Mine is Agent Orange VN style . First treated in Nov of 07 Work for the Nationaal Park Service or did until I ran into a supervisor who did not or would not understand what I was going thru although she is the only one but life goes on and I still work for NPS Exersize is the best I do Yoga And Pialote work with bicycling every day. My motto is it may get me in the long roun and I do mean long but "I will not go gental into the night" Dylon Thomas
hi hamish,i have exactly the same problem i,m sick of severe tremor and its becoming constant cant get any relief, have tried numerous things.
I am on carbidopa 25/levadopa 250 mg, but I take a real high dosage, 2 pills plus rasagiline mesylate 1mg it has almost totally stopped my tremors.
PS, I have to be real careful and take in a full stomach, extremely nauseating, I end up in the emergency room a couple times, it has to be in a full stomach,
no mistake in this.
Tremors can be induced by anxiety. Sometimes I feel physical anxiety
when I watch the news. [gee. I wonder why] Try deep breathing.
A few months ago I started taking St John's wort to combat depression and for some reason my tremors stopped. Maybe I was just lucky.
The only thing that really works for me now is good old Carbidopa/Levodopa and the DBS surgery.
DBS surgery and no tremor...I don't know how long it will last but it sure worked.
I had the DBS surgery done in april and I have the newest unit from Medtronics that has four settings. At the end of November,I will get full control of my settings, including voltage and duration. Can't wait!
Yes , I've been able to reduce my tremors greatly by taking 2 miraplex ER in the morning , 2 carb/Levo every 2 hours till I go to bed at night. So far this has been working the best for me.
Yes, and without meds. I use breathing and mindfullness practices and play the viola and violin...In fact, Ii am not even sure I have PD .. maybe a secondary neurological issue is at work in my case. Dancing and singing are also very useful in managing my right hand tremor and curling toes of my right foot. Also, I try not to get too 1)_ hungry, 2) too tired or , 3) depleted. When my diet and rest are optimal I do best.
> ONLY AFTER A LONG TERM DIET AND LOSING A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF WEIGHT TO HELP MY HEALTH ISSUES.
I've lost 60 lbs since June 2010 -- simply by eating less, I plan to get to the 180's and stop,
I'm almost 54. By which, I mean that I recently turned 55.
> carbidopa 25/levadopa 250 mg, but I take a real high dosage,
I'm having to drop from 900mg levadopa / day to 600mg. The dyskinesia has been too much. So, the Dr has me on trihexyphenidyl (which helped the speed of my right hand significantly). Now that we're continuing to drop the leva, he's also increasing the Requip XL. The one other time I tried Requip XL, it had no effect on me -- good or bad, But that was at only 8mg/day, Right now the target is 16mg/day.
I have no idea what effect these meds, and others I've tried over the last year, have had in my weight loss.
Oh yeah, tremor was the original question. For several years, ~4-5, I had a slight tremor in my right hand sometimes, but I realized at my neurologist appt last week that I haven't had that in about 2 months, I don't for sure know why it stopped. I'd guess that the med changes did it, maybe more so because I switched to clonazepam when restless legs were keeping me awake too much. Maybe that calmed the nerves in the hands too.
I am diagnosed but not yet on meds. I have right-sided tremors which are made worse by anxiety or tension and find two things help. One is coconut oil, one TBS at a time and the other is alcohol, any amount, even two or three gulps, especially beer. I hope I can stay meds free with exercise and other coping behavior.
I am in Stage I Parkinson's but not on meds. I take CO or MCT Oil with each meal. Two tbsp. CO or one tbsp. of MCT Oil. My preference ( present decision ) is MCT Oil. It seems to me that these doses, given two to four hours to work, have a very modest affect. More hope than scientific proof.
What is MCT oil? I make a chocolate bar melting CO with plain cocoa and vanilla, cayenne and whatever else I can think of because I don't like taste of coconut. I think CO helps tremors and definitely constipation. Does anyone have diagnosed PD for over a year with no meds used?
I am over one year with no meds. MCT Oil has 100% medium chain triglycerides where CO only has 40%. the rest being lauric acid.
if you are tremor dominant then you are less likely to have cognitive problems and problems with dementia. Look at the bright side. You are a lucky man.
