DBS placement site

For those that have DBS, how many have had it placed in the subthalamic nucleus? How about the globus pallidis? Has there been any changes in anxiety or depression since the procedure?

I'm not sure of the placement of my DBS, but I have developed great anxiety issues and depression (emotional) issues! It is uncontrollable! Never thought of it being related to the DBS! Is this normal? How do you know this? More info would be appreciated on your question and why you ask? Thank you.

Blessings,

Carol

I have been studying the procedure and found articles discussing increased psych issues after subthalamic nucleus implantation(stn). This is the most common and traditional. The globus pallidus (gp) site has less psych problems. I think it is the ventral-medial location that is targeted.

There appears to be more psych involvement with nontremor dominate pwp's. That's me... bradykinesia's dystonia, imapired balance and anxiety/depression that has been resistent to SSRI's & SNRI's. I suspect I would be a lot better if I had normal mood.

I have found that since my surgery, I have found that my depression/anxiety has worsened. I wonder if it's the mechanic of my brain, or just the process itself being so tough. Etterus and I seem to have a lot in common.

I should say that I do not know where exactly my equipment has been installed.

I have had both, very rare I'm told. The problem was an increase in dystonia over time which no one could have predicted. I have more dystonia than is normal. The first DBS was in the STN, the second, in the GPi. I have to take a plane ride to sdjust my settings! But I have one of the best programmers in the country.

No depression, but did you know that depression is one of the symptoms of Parkinson's? My neurologist calls it a "disease of mood and movement."

I had my DBS surgery in 2007. It is in my sub-thalamus. I have not experienced increased anxiety or depression. DBS is the best decision I ever made about treating my Parkinson's.
