Hi fisherman,

This link may be helpful:

parkinsons.org.uk/advice/ca...

I was diagnosed last year at the age of 50 and would recommend lots of cuddles, lots of listening and lots of patience. I think sometimes it's worse for those watching us deteriorate, so remember to take care of yourself as well. The fact you've posted on here shows how much you care. Your wife is very lucky.

i agree parkinsons uk can arrange for a support worker to visit you both, lorna my support lady is very aprochable and as i live alone told my sister whom im very close to that she can contact her in confidence to discuss any worries she may have for me. they have also invited me to a parkinsons for young people weekend to which i can take a carer, i will take my best friend as her dad was dx the week after myself.

this site is brilliant and i agree lots of cuddles and laughter. your wife is lucky to have you and with your love she will be ok .

Thank you. I wish I could follow your instructions for help but We live in Belleville, Illinois, USA.

Hopefully we will get replies from someone in this area.

NOTE: My wife is from Scotland and has relatives in Northern England and Scotland. We met when I was stationed outside of Edinburgh.

how luky your wife is..............i live alone near Tucson, AZ. my daughter lives in Tucson and my younger sister. They really do not know of my daily struggles.............

what I would not do for a cuddle, a hug and another cuddle !!!! well, my dog Izzy does cuddle quite well..............so it could be worse.......

Is your wife newly diagnosed, is there particular information that would be helpful? The internet is an amazing resource. The US Parkinsons organisations put out excellent information Eg National Parkinsons Foundation, as does Parkinsons UK. All the information is free on line and downloadable. Also check out EPDA. epda.eu.com/en/. That could keep you busy for a few hours!

You wife is very fortunate in that you are interested in how to help her. It is enough that you are sharing the journey with her and wanting to really understand. That itself is a huge help.

We are in WNY. Please go to the Parkinson.org website in the US. They have many booklets available with information about the disease, its many symptoms and practical pointers as well as treatment information. Also look or ask for information about a local support group. They are invaluable. Is your wife's neuro a Movement Disorder Specialist? If not, yo may want to see one out. They specialize in PD.

I am also a carer for my husband and I can relate. Patience is a big one as well as the hugs, cuddles, etc. others have mentioned. Mine also has the PD related dementia which makes it hard to communicate but somehow we manage. Check the website for PD info as well as a local PD office and a support group as they are very helpful. Also, as mentioned, make sure you find a Movement Disorder Specialist as they are much more helpful than just a Neurologist. Keep reading this site as it has invaluable information and you can ask any questions you want and get answers. Please remember to take care of yourself. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Hi Fisherman

I am new on this site. i an 68 and have been diagnosed for 4 years. The best advice I can give your wife would be to take it one day at a time, taking each day as it comes. Seeking out a support group also helped me as it helped me to not feel as if I was the only one going through this battle. As Raven said, my thoughts and prayers are with you
