I know what freezing is. I understand it. I wondered if people could describe what it feels like when they experience it.

FREEZING.....IS LIKE BEING TRAPPED IN A MUD BOG, UNABLE TO MOVE YOUR FEET. ITS LIKE THE MOST FRUSTRATING IN THE WORLD,AT LEAST FOR ME IT IS .YOU STAND THERE,KNOWING WHERE YOU WANT TO GO... FEELING LIKE YOUR FEET ARE READY TO GO FORWARD...BUT THEY DONT MOVE !! WHY DO YOU ASK?

thanks. What you describe, I'm just starting to feel. Like the top of my body wants to go but the legs won't. Also feel it rolling over in bed.

The top of my body moved, my feet didn't, I fell & broke my shoulder in 4 places!

You can roll over in bed? I'm impressed - I haven't been able to do that for most of the 8 yrs since dx. It seems I'm an odd bod re PD - I have tremor + I freeze. I understand that mostly it's one or the other. However my freezing is hardly visible. It was my PD nurse checking my gait at my 6 monthly appointment who noticed it. As I started each lap of my walk she noticed I hesitated, shook myself & started to walk again. She asked me how long I've been doing this. It's actually so long I'd forgotten I do it. I remember it being a nuisance when I was 11 - I'm about to be 64. The only time it bothers me is when I'm having balance problems - then it might prompt a fall.

My husband describes it as like someone has put a 6inch nail in your foot and you are unable to move, very emarassing and frustrating

Your feet and the floor become one.

It feels like you just hit a closed door, and that your stuck, feet planted firmly in cement and your can't for the world figure out how to pick your feet up. Then some well meaning person will swoop in and when trying to help, throw you off balance becasue you are concentrating so hard on what you so you don't fall down, then the well meaning iritating person just broke your concentration. And this always happens when you either need to be some where or there is a crowd of people, so embrasssing and frustrsting! Usually happens when my meds wear off or I get caught between doasges( this happens when I feel good and forget for a second or two I have PD LOL ).

I think my freezing is a bit different, my is more verbale, some times it take some space of time to get the words started, or I'll be shopping and I'll reach for something a become like a statue,my hands just stop. Just wondering if many get that kind of freeze, maybe it's just early on. Thanks

I have that verbal freezing. Also I get what my neuro calls "visceral off" -- can't pee or anything and of course affects thighs until meds kick in then watch out!

I've been catching up reading all the blogs today and I can really relate to this page about freezing ! I think it was the one big clue for my doctor because I don't have a tremor... I have dystonia left hand also walk with a cane.

Just call me Stuck-n-the-mud...

Marche,

I witnessed the most crazy thing in the neuro's office yesterday. They lent Mike a "laser cane". The bottom shoots a little red line sideways in his path. They told him don't step on the line, step over it. Like "step on a crack and you'll break your mother's back" when you were a kid.

The crazy part was it WORKED. His sometimes freezing stopped. The programmer poohpoohed it as conscious walking rather than walking you did not have to think about. Crap, who cares when you are walking the mall you just do not want to freeze. Leave the unconscious walking for the trip from the bed to the john. When you are walking to your table in a restaurant you just do NOT want to freeze.

I'm not sure whether what I experience is what people refer to as freezing. I have what I call "go slows" - I am fully aware of what is going on around me and I can hear people talking (usually wondering what to do about me) but I can't really communicate clearly and can't move - like wading through mud. These episodes can last for several hours and are often associated with meal times where I sit, while everyone else is eating, staring at my plate feeling stupid but unable to move. I have been on quite a large dose of sinemet 4 tablets 5 times a day but I felt over medicated and recently cut it back to 3 x 5 and have felt much better. However, I still have some "go slows" just not every day as it was before.

Does this happen to anyone else?
