Heres wishing everybody a glorious sunny n hot weekend!
I guess alot of you know that I recently lost my job with Spectrum Social Care Ltd ( a centre for adults with learning disabilities ) Here in Sheffield... I was a minibus driver / support worker ......in short they told me that they were having to make cut backs and that I was to be "let go" I was given no notice, no review, no consultation, no "reasonable adjustment"......NOTHING! The day I was laid off I was told was to be my last day!!......UNBELIEVABLE!!...
Anyway all that happened on the 30th April last......so get this......I went to my local jobcentre ( unemployment office ) today and found out that Spectrum Social Care have posted an advert in there ( and on the internet ) ........wanting support workers!!... WTF???.....This, after they told me that there were no vacancies for me!!!!..........CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!.... after the way they treated me!!.......B****RDS!!!.......It beggars belief!!
Anyway I`m taking a positive from it.... I took a copy of the advert and I am going to show it to my lawyer when I see him next tuesday morning.......Time to kick Spectrums ASS!!....They`re sooo gonna regret what they did to me!!
Oh yeah and my local BBC TV station ( Look North ) are still interested in my story, they want me to call them after i`ve seen my lawyer......
I will keep you all posted as to what happens
WATCH THIS SPACE!!

Hi Mate,
They are in big trouble now, not only did they shaft you but they had the cheek to advertise your old position, looks good for your claim.
I was so saddened to hear your story, having something like Parkinson's is bad enough without being treated this way. I hope your lawyer can help you.
What is it you want to achieve, your job back? compensation? an apology? or all those things.
How would they feel, having to struggle with a debilitating condition, trying to support your family, then to be treated with such a complete lack of respect by someone who has absolutely no idea what you go through every single day.
It is inexcusable, morally and legally.
I hope you get what you want out of this, but do so with your head held high, your dignity Intact and in the knowledge that we are all cheering you on!!!!
My main objective is to hilight the disgraceful way Spectrum Social Care have treated me....and hopefully to get the message out there that employers like this simply cannot treat employees like myself in such a disrespectful way....I would never want to work for another company like Spectrum, so no I would not want my job back after what they have put me through.
Although finances are very tight for me right now, money is not my main focus. Any compensation that came my way would be a welcome bonus and, should that happen then I`m sure there will be a donation to a worthy cause such as Parkinsons UK.
I greatly appreciate the help, support and encouragement of everyone on this site......It humbles me
My head is held high and my dignity will remain intact
Good luck to you Andy. I am appalled at the way your previous employer treated you. Go get 'em! Not that I wish this or any disease on any person; but it can happen to anyone. One day you are living a normal life and then suddenly bam....life changes. No one is invincible.
Here in the US we have The American Disabilaties Act which is a law that you cannot discriminate against the disabled. I believe it is grounds for a lawsuit. It is against the law here. Maybe it is the same in the UK/ I wish you well.
Andy: the same thing happened to me, I went to work on Oct 15,2010 planning on finishing the quaterly finanacial statements I was working on when I was called into the partner's office (both partners were there) and told that I was terminated. I was to leave at that moment, not given a reason other than they were taking the partnership in a different direction (I worked for a CPA firm). I worked there for over 4 years doing tax returns and accounting for several companies, including financial statements. And I had never had a bad review other than I worked too slowly sometimes. Unfortunately, I live in a "right to work" state and other than collecting unemployment for a short period, there was nothing I could do.
Yes - we have the ADA, but there are folks who look far a way around it. When they pressured me to go, it was without offering any accomodations that would have kept me working at least 6 more months and possibly longer.
It raise many eyebrows in the Drs' offices when I told them my employer was asking me to go because of PD. By then, if I hadn't taken their "shove" work there would have been impossible, as they planned to ruin my reputation with biased observations and reports and completely biased recommendtions.
A lawyer is your best friend - and hopefully a different opportunity.
Its me again. We have to stand, up for ourselves. Its a matter of pride and principle.Don't give up. I am sure you were a responsible employee.I was a manager for many years and if one job is difficult for a person you can always find another job that they can do so they can still work there,Unfortunately some bosses do not take the time to know their employees and do not treat them with respect. I'll be praying for you.God Bless
Good luck Andy, this sounds positive and could be really beneficial in proving you were wrongfully terminated. Have a great weekend with your children.
You are the one who always cheers us up at weekends, I really admire you and your spirit, do not give in. And thankyouxx Did not realise you were a yorkshire man, but on hindsight yes of course you are.
Thankyou so much for all your words of support and encouragement! Its wonderful to be a part of this fantastic community!
I have since received a letter from my ex employers with a feeble excuse as to why they dismissed me and "without prejudice" and "as a gesture of good will" a cheque for £150 as "a weeks pay in lieu of notice" and as "full and final settlement". WTF??
What do you all think to that?.......guilty feelings?....A feeble attempt to buy me off? Are they expecting me to say no more and forget about it?......WELL THEY'RE SO WRONG!!!......CHEAPSKATES!!! ....their offer is laughable!!! They're not gonna get away with it that easy!! THE FIGHT GOES ON!!!!
Watch This Space my friends.....Watch This Space!!!
