Hi everybody. I had an Occupational Health assessment several weeks ago which I need to secure my pension. The assessment was carried out by a GP who I sensed didn’t really understand PD fully and consequently only partially supported the ill health application. He seemed to base his recommendations on what he could see in front of him rather than how I felt. I told him about fatigue, insomnia and social anxiety etc but these were pushed into the margin. Parkinson’s UK have suggested I ask community members about leads/referrals to OH firms or physicians that understand the disease properly and so I can pay for a more appropriate report to be produced which I may have to pay for privately. Message me privately if this suits. Thanks.

I'm not sure if my comment applies directly (it's different circumstances & I'm in the US), but I think you're exactly right, the GP probably didn't know much about PD. In the paperwork I completed for Social Security & the evaluation, I let them know PD is a progressive disease and it will never get better and there is no cure and the slightest amount of stress make the symptoms worse. My doctor wrote a letter that basically said the same thing.
Sorry about how you were handled, Jeeves. I pray that you find someone more in tune with PD. Hang in there.
Ask for referral to movement disorder clinic and speak to neurologist or parkinsons nurse. I am in Scotland and GP had to refer me.
