A walk in the Cotswold countryside.

Good morrow Friends,

I'm sorry folks but this one is for the locals, that is the village of Bourton-on-the-Water, in the Cotswold District of Gloucestershire here in England.

A few months ago we had a real social network gathering, for young onset Parkinson's people and their friends, relations, carers and any hangers on and got to talk to, see and to interact with real people what will they come up with next?

During the social we split into smaller groups, roughly based on the area we lived in, and a discussion was started on how to keep in social contact. Our group decided that once every 3 months or so would go for a country walk with a pub lunch at the end of it, the first one of these I could not attend on that date and the second one was good but a bit soggy. It is my turn to organize a walk and after an exchange of emails the date of the 22nd September has been agreed.

The walk itself is from Guiting Power, starting at 11:00 about two and one half hours of walking at our own pace a pub half way if required and two pubs to choice from back in Guiting. If you're just inclined to the social bits then you can stay in the pub meet us halfway or walk half way and bow out at the halfway pub. anything you want to do ,it's a social not a yomp.

So if you are local or happen to be in the area or make a day of it, let me know. you all are welcome the only rules are that we walk at the pace of the slowest and we help eachother to enjoy the day.

Tony

I went for a wonderful hike in the Cotswold's that ended with a fabulous meal in a dainty little pub nestled in some beautiful valley. I was 20, it was 1975 and I wasn't used to thick English beer and I was hosted by British roommate who was keen to help me along. The last thing I remember is that they had the loveliest bathroom I'd ever seen .... Until I redecorated it. I wonder if they really meant it when they said."banned for life."

My husband was born in the Cotswold's (Prestbury/Cheltenham Spa) and before I was dx with PD, we visited family every year. The family are scattered from Prestbury/Cheltenham, to Eyinesford in Kent, to Bath, Putney, Wiltshire. Totnes and Ashburton on the southerm part of Dartmore. I think the Cotswolds are the most beautiful example of the English countryside. How fortunate I was to spend as much time as I did in that lovely part of the country. Now, Seattle to Heathrow is a bit lengthy, but since we have a grandson in Ashburton (age 5) I must suffer the pain of travel to see him. One thing about BA's nonstop from Seattle, is that I am wheeled from the ticket counter, right through to the airplane and boarded first. Remember that bit of info, for all of you who fly, if you ask for a wheelchair when ticketing, you will be treated like royalty during your journey.
