What is the correct name for non-shaking... - Cure Parkinson's
What is the correct name for non-shaking PD or stiff PD.Writing up info for hubby and don't know correct way to call it.

Janpak, I don't believe I've ever seen a special term for non-shaking PD. Even in articles specific to the subject they seem to refer to it as non tremor Parkinson's. If nothing else the term is descriptive.
Idiopathic Parkinson's comes to mind but I believe this is a general term ... sounds impresive except idiopathic means the cause is unknown 
I was diagnosed with parkinsons about 5 years ago and I don't have a tremor. I've now been told I have PAGF which is Pure Akinesia gate Freezing. What other symptons does your husband have?
frozen expression on face, when using his walker on leg just doesn't want to go, bends over. if he wants to talk has to swallow first -sometimes silava (sp) drools from mouth when asleep. He falls asleep in chair leans sidewise from waist up and I have to keep an eye out
so he wont fall over.
I don'r have tremor and have never been given any diagnosis other than Parkinson's,,
I don't have a tremor, but lots of other problems. I'm very unsteady on my feet and cannot walk very well. I sort of stumble around the house, feeling very unbalanced, I'm TIRED all the time. Can't read my writing. Now I'm finding it difficult to get food into my mouth - seem to spill a lot. I have ti tell myself which day it is, or figure it out. I thought, for sure, my cell phone was wrong and I didn't know how to set it. I think PD may be affecting my mind. Can't remember etc.
The stiffness in PD is called bradykinesia (sp). When I first noticed my husband's symptoms, that was the main one. He walked hunched over, almost ramrod stiff, with his fingers curled up. He looked like a zombie. At that time, the tremors were in his lips and jaws. He had slight tremors in his hands. I kept telling him that the primary needed to send him to a neuro, but the primary kept telling him it was depression. DUH!!!! Finally, after almost a year I got my husband to his current neurologist. It was a combo of the primary not wanting to believe I was right and the fact that my husband was stubborn and scared of what he might hear.
This is my husband . Most of this he has. Stiffness -expressionless-etc. Thank you for your answer.
He is 83 -always been in charge. I cannot tell now what he is really thinking. My husband doesn't really want to talk about his PD.
He sometimes sits with his arms folded over his chest . As if he were cold. I don't think he knows he is doing it all the time.
This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to deal with except for the loss of my three day old Michael was was/is the twin of my no.2 son .
One feels very isolated and lost sometimes because of being responsible 24 hrs a day.
I don't mind -I just worry about doing well by him.

They used to classify PD with tremor as tremor dominant PD, and PD with slowness and stiffness as akinetic rigid PD. Not sure whether they still do.
FOR WHAT IT IWORTH - MY NEURO TOLD ME I HAVE ATYPICAL PD - WHICH I DID LOOK UP BUT NOW CANT REMEMBER !!I DONT HAVE TREMOR BUT PLENTY OF OTHER SYMPTOMS LIKE STIFFNESS AND FALLING OVER

Thanks for your information. Lots of people my husband knows don't see how he can have PD If he doesn't have shaking. They mostly know of Michael J. Fox. Stiffness and falling over are my hubby's biggest problems. He will not discuss much about what is going on with himself. If he tells me he is hurting etc- then I know it is really bothering him.

I was dx with ATYPICAL PARKINSONSISM SYNDROME 3 yrs ago, when I was 55 yrs old. Has affected my speech, facial muscles, muscles get stiff and causes me to stumble alot, salavia seems to have multiplied, left hand tends to spread out w/out my knpwing it, etc...the list goes on. But, no tremors. My doctors say that exercise is the best thing to slow down APS. I find that they are right!

Could be ATYPICAL PARKINSONISM SYNDROME..
When my hubby was in the hospital, he received therapy from a speech therapist. The had him do things like blow up a balloon, eat peanut butter out of a spoon with just the tip of his tongue, blow on a pin wheel or blow bubbles out of a wand. They had him look in a mirror and make faces at himself. Also facial exercises. They tried to get him to use a LOUD voice. He doesn't have tremors but stiff, slow, movement, facial mask.

Sorry for being 3 years late to reply! Parkinson's without tremor is designated as of the PIGD type ("Postural Instability (and) Gait Disturbances") About one-third of Parkinson's patients are said to have this kind, the other two-thirds have tremor.
