COMT to MAO-B conversion

I have been on entcapone for the past 4 years. Aside from the occasional dyskinesia in the past year or so I feel my mobility is less fluid and on time is getting less. Some studies show that MAO-B give better mobility and more on time. Has anyone converted from COMT to MAO-B? What’s your experience with that?

What makes you think you have to choose between them? They both increase the effectiveness of l dopa but through very different processes which work well together. If you are being told that you have to choose between entacapone and a MAOI i think you should question your source. If entsacapone is losing its effectiveness you may well find thst just swapping the entacapone for the much newer -and safer Opicapone improves the quakity and amount of your on time. Whatever you do dont drop the COMT i and think you will get the same effect but better from.an MAOI.. they perform two different tasks There is pkenty of good quality information availablr but at its simplest the MAOI (B) drugs' may improve motorvskills and COMT inhibitord may increase on time. .for most people the best resultss are likely to be from taking both eg Opicapone - and Safinamide (Xadago) which is the newest form of MAOI (B) . Though safinamide - likecall MAOIs does impose quite a few fsirly serioys restrictions. If there is some individual reason why you cant take both MAOI and COMT inhibitor then my advice would be to.swap the entacapone for opucapone . And check your source of drug information!!

Thanks for the reply pen1! I understand that they have different mechanism of action. But isn't that using both of them may cause undesirable dyskinesia?

It's entcapone loses its effectiveness. It's the levadopa, probably due to the progression of the disease. I tried Opicapone it gives more dyskinesia and it loses a lot of its effectiveness in the last dose of the day.

I have been using both for many years. They do not compete with each other. They compliment each other.
