CREXONT - Has anyone switched from Rytary to CREXONT?

I feel like I have been through the wringer the past several months. My movement disorder specialist switched me from Rytary 48.75/195 (2 capsules 6X daily) to CREXONT 87.5/350 (2 capsules 3X daily, in order to see if it gave me more ON time. I started it on a Wednesday and by Friday I was feeling strange like the dosage was too high On Saturday I woke up feeling like my entire body was immobilized and I couldn’t even sit up in bed without assistance to take my meds. I started thinking that 700 mg in one dose might be too high. I have switched back to my Rytary while I wait to see if my doctor will prescribe the next dosage level down. Please let me know if you have had similar experiences. Thanks!

When I tried Crexont, I found that the effects of each dose would increase over a few days time. I believe this was due to Crexont being a long lasting medication (up to 8 hours) and I was taking the next dose before the previous dose had completely worn off so each dose would add to the residual levodopa from the previous dose. This made my dyskinesia much worse than with C/D IR. For now, I have returned to the IR formulation.

Thanks so much for your input! I totally agree with you about the increase in effect over time; my dyskinesia is off the charts at times, even though I take two Gocovri at bedtime.

Gocovri is a controlled release form of amantadine that helps dyskinesia.

But my Rytary that I was taking isn’t IR, it is ER. So that’s a little different, I think.

This is my 3rd month on Crexont. I switched from Sinemet IR. My doctors are actually listening and my feedback in order to titrate. This is so new that there is little anecdotal information to use for reference.

My doctor dispensed two 70/280 three times a day. I could not go past the second dose and it stacks up very fast. It is however very effective in the sense that the IR portion is quite effective, unlike Rytary.

Where does it say that each dose lasts for 8 hours? I can't find it.

Regarding the duration of the effectiveness of each dose, I’ve read only that each dose stays in your system for about 8 hours, thus you may feel some residual effects longer than estimated. I am requesting that my MDS let me try taking 2 280mg 3 times a day, to hopefully smooth out these peaks of each dose’s initial “jumpstart” of my body. The CREXONT has a more effective release and also has more of the IR C/L than Rytary. Thanks for your input and I wish you the best on your PD journey.

Not sure if you have seen this chart but looking at the shape of these curves may help. If you take subsequent doses early you can see how it would really stack up.
