The article says exercise at 80 to 85% of maximum heart rate can restore substantia nigra function. It mentions doing it three times per week but doesn't say how long. Or what type of exercise. For my age the maximum heart rate is around 170 beats per minute. I follow Dr Mercola's protocol. He first used a stationary but then switched to an elliptical trainer. He exercises for 30 seconds then rests for 90 seconds then repeats it for a total of eight sprints.

I use a treadmill. I set it to 15% grade and sprint for 30 seconds, then rest for 90 seconds for a total of eight sprints. I wear a heart rate monitor. My heart rate hits 130+ each sprint. Mercola says this workout stimulates Growth Hormone. I imagine it also stimulates BDNF.
