Hi,

My husband was diagnosed with PD 15 years ago. He was misdiagnosed with narcolepsy and prescribed stimulants which had devastating side effects. Numerous types of PD meds followed, once he was diagnosed. All had brutal side effects. The three things that have helped him the most are a keto diet, exercise and nicotine gum. None of these were recommended by neuro or gp, however, both said "carry on" when results were positive. He didn't have the same results with the patch for some reason. The gum has allowed him to continue working. He would be at home disabled without it. It almost acts like a rescue drug, gives him a surge of energy that improves his cognition, speech and motor movements. It stimulates and calms at the same time. What other drug can do this? Just my two cents...

What brand of nicotine gum does your husband use and where do you buy it ? How much does he use and what time of day? My husband has a lot of off time in between his Carbidopa/Levodopa doses. I'm always looking for something that would help.

Hi,

Nicorette is the brand, 4 mg. He still takes C/L, but adds a gum with each dose...so 3 to 4 times a day for him, depending on if he is working or not. Without the gum he would not be able to work. He is currently looking into the "cleanest" brand. "Lucy" is being recommended by some, on Amazon. Hope this helps. I wish I knew all this 15 years ago. It would have saved our family from a lot of agony.

as an alternative is us a liquid nicotine in a 2 litre water bottle for a more even dosing. I add 3mg nicotine. Works great and keeps you hydrated
