Am I sick?

Wife says she has COVID. I can hear her coughing downstairs. She looks like she's sick. Pretty much everyone we know has had COVID. My wife had it last year. Her doctor has put her on medication. My in-laws have all been through it. Is this essentially a bad cold? Today I'm coughing, have runny irritated eyes and no appetite. We've got COVID test kits. I just used one and it says I'm negative for COVID. So the symptoms are due my hypochondria?

This is the time of year there is an uptick in upper respiratory infections. Treat symptoms, vitamin C etc. It went around in FL when school started (mid August). Tested for covid negative, it passed quickly but cough lingers and is annoying. As always if fever develops or pulse oxygen low see MD.

you may want to re-test for covid because it doesn't always show up on the first test but may be positive a day or so later

Plenty of respiratory bugs going around apart from COVID. I hope you get over it soon!

Thanks for the replies. Yesterday I slept for 20 hours. Today I'm less feverish but with periods of cold sweat interposed. I was scheduled for Tai Chi but skipped it so as not to inflict on others whatever virus I'm shedding. Tomorrow is Yoga but I'm still debating whether to go.

I broke my clean record of never having Covid a month ago & worst of all, it was while we were on vacation in Hawaii. I took a Covid test after my husband came down with it. I went to urgent care to get an Rx for Paxlovid. But the most striking thing for me was how much it exacerbated my PD symptoms. I could barely walk! We had to stay in our distant ocean view bedroom since we had family staying with us. So not quite the dream vacation, but a room with a view, while having minor Covid symptoms was ok.

Probably just seasonal allergies and/or colds. There are hundreds of variants of viruses and colds you could be getting just because. It's not hypochondria, they really are out to get you.
