Does anyone have a probiotic they think is helping their Parkinson’s? Was it recommended by an integrative health specialist or Parkinson’s doctor?
The more I read about the link between gut brain axis and inflammation , neuro diseases etc the more I feel I need to focus on this aspect. There is so much data out there that I am getting confused on a proper protocol for healing gut and improving micro biome.
thanks in advance!

Hi. I am not a PWO but a dear friend is and I have been researching the microbiome in regards to health & wellbeing for some years now when I encountered a Dr Jason Hawrelak. He appears to be the foremost in microbiome research. He offers a clinic, whether in person or online, but personally has a waiting list if about six months. However, his colleagues are accessible. Ari Whitten has an excellent podcast with Dr. Hawrelak and would highly recommend giving it an ear to hear this man's expertise. Following is a link to his website
Hope this helps. But one thing I have learned is that supplementing with a probiotic is never a wise thing without first understanding one's personal microbiome status
Yes, I just watched than podcast on energyblueprint with him.
His advice is to provide prebiotics rather than probiotics as probiotics are transient.
The advice is eat lots of fibre, many different coloured vegetables and fruit. Each bacteria eats a different plant compound. Diversity is key. Avoid antibiotics and even natural ones like berberine and grapefruit seed oil. Avoid toxins in toothpaste and shampoos and pesticides. Organic vege from farmers markets is the best as it has its own micro biome. Supermarket vege have a supermarket biome.
Do gardening, get into nature, avoid processed foods, eg white flour, sugar, food additives.
This is the link to the gut health program which you do have to pay for so I won't be doing it. But it would be informative humanoptimization.com/all-c...
Can I suggest something simple and free way to increase gut bacteria...chew every food at least 20 times before food goes in your gut..your saliva will help to digest your food and when you are chewing food your taste buds create a link between brain and gut and release feel good hormones...and avoid cold drinks...always drink luke warm water...try this one for 1 month and you will see the difference..it has helped me with my constipation and energy level 😀
I am working with a functional medicine doctor and also a naturopath I had a stool analysis done called a G.I. map test. Based on the results of the test, I’m taking specific pre-biotics and probiotics. Just started this will keep you posted how I make out.
One thing I heard on the interview mentioned above with Ari Whitten and Dr Hawrelak was that these tests may not be very reliable. We had them done too. Ari had 3 tests by different companies and the results were completely different. They use different technologies. Some grow the cultures. Others study the amount of various known strains in the actual sample. I suppose also it might depend on what you ate in the meal that was coming through and also you only take a small sample which might not be representative of the whole “log” or what’s still in the gut.
Ari suspects that it is a bit of a sham and that they were always going to give everyone the same probiotic regardless of the results.
As always, take everything with caution. He sells supplements, courses and now a probiotic too. But I do trust him more than some, more fool me.😆
I make my own water kefir. Contains a wide range of Probiotics & is quite effective for a sluggish digestive system , although can temporarily cause a bit of bloating till you get used to it . Much info online.
I read on this site of others having success with PS 128, but i found it too expensive. I checked out their main ingredient & it's L. Plantarum & don't quote me here, but I believe it's 60 billion units (?). I went online to find that Swanson sells it for a much lower price, but it has only 10 billion units, so you have to take more pills. Then I found L.Plantarum @ Costco & I now combine the two, taking fewer pills. It has really helped me relieve my constipation.
