PD and recovery from anesthesia

I was diagnosed 8 years ago and I'm on a daily regimen including CL 25-100s. I had a colonoscopy yesterday with Propofol administered and I'm having some trouble recovering fully today. Primarily freezing and weakness. Anyone else have this experience and if so how long did it last? Thank you

That is strange. I actually did great for a few days after the colonoscopy and was symptom free. Actually, a number of Parkinson's patients including many forum members have anecdotally reported this strange phenomenon happened to them also. This has been attributed either to Propofol - the anesthesia used for the procedure or the fact that you have to clear the gut thoroughly.

I don't know what to tell you. This just makes it more confounding and lends credence to the theory that every patient is different.

Hope you get better soon.

Missing a day (or two) of "routine" exercise, sleep, and activity has a negative impact on sense of well-being. Not propofol specific

I also had a colonoscopy yesterday with propofol, and it took me a long time to have enough energy to move in recovery. I was totally exhausted. However, today I played the best pickle ball I ever have…

Thank you, Ob6842. I was also very slow - often rooted to the spot. Today, all the effects seem to have worn off and I am glad to say I have made it back to my normal routine and am back at work.

Did you have some polyps removed making your procedure longer? Propofol is basically made from soy products. it has a very short half life. Good chance you may have had versed as well, a piece of valium basically, that may make you feel weird a little longer. More than likely it is the stress of the procedure, change-up in diet routine, and colon cleanse that caused some symptoms. There should be no long term issues. (There is data on longer general anesthesia cases and memory with elderly. ). I gave anesthesia over 30 years and just have a book on Amazon "Having Surgery?" thus the recent research.

Thank You Sandmanliz, for the reply. No, I had no polyps removed or any other procedure which delayed things. Just my lot to be one of the ones with negative results. Lucky for me day two seems much better, although I was really hoping to be one of the few whose symptoms disappeared for a couple of days. Oh, well

I had a colonoscopy done 2 days ago. Had Versed and Benadryl . Doc didn't give me the fentanyl they usually use because of my PD and meds. The procedure isn"t a long one though and I feel I would have been fine as I've had it in the past without issues. I was pretty low key the rest of the day. The Versed wiped most of my memory for the day.

I have to have a full general anesthesia for parathyroid surgery soon. I’m having a pre-op meeting with the anesthesiologist - and I have a number of concerns. But I really need the surgery. I was dx withPD 14 years ago and coping well until hit with hypercalcemia from a node on my parathyroid gland.

Does anyone have any advice about coping with anesthesia and hospitalization?
