It feels like my DBS surgery is getting nearer. I have an appointment for a pre-op on Sunday and was wondering if anyone knows what to expect? Is there anything I should prepare for?
Cheers

I wish you all the best. Sorry i cant help with your question as im still on the waiting list, but would be interested in any replies.
Where are you having your surgery?
All the best
When were you diagnosed
Nearly 9 years back now.
Nothing neurological Ginge: blood pressure, a few basic assessments to ensure that you re ready for surgery
Hi GingerJ I hope all goes well for you I am on the waiting list for SRH to see Dr Kobylecki so am really interested with how your surgery goes.
I certainly will. I understand the surgery can be anywhere up to 3 months after the pre-op so I might be wired up for Christmas 🎄🙂
Hi, thanks for reply, could I ask, how long was the selection process? I was referred in May for my initial consultation and am waiting for my first appointment, I was told by my neurologist to expect quite a wait.
Bon courage
good luck 🍀 ginger be positive and you’ll be fine please let us know how you feel after you get it done mate 🙏🏽❤️
Hi Ginjgerj,For me preop meant taking a 3 hour MRI with Gadolinium for high contrast in a 6 Mega Tesla MRI machine. Easy as falling asleep. But that is not necessarily what you will experience.
You may want to consider trying Facebook's Group for DBS. I am sure the hundreds there will be a good resource.
Good luck and be well.
Speedy recovery!
Sounds serious. I just had a couple of hours in an mri as part of a clinical trial I'm doing alongside the dbs surgery. They are looking at how it could improve walking in the future I think.
It's serious in so far as general anesthesia is serious. My DBS was done entirely asleep and conducted entirely in the MRI tube. No halo needed. Best of luck and let us know what happens!
Hi Gingerj, I have DBS operation done last year February 16th, it is almost 18 months. I have PD when I was only 49 years old. My Neurologist recommended it. But I was reluctant to take up the recommendation. I have no regret that I did it. I believe I would have been bed bound if I did not have DBS. I went thought 6 months of various tests to be 110% certain that I am DBS suitable and this operation doesn’t cure PD…to be continued….
Best of luck! Hope all goes well!
