This is one of my top list for innovations that will make a real and worthwhile difference to my health eventually. I didn't notice anything in the press articles surrounding this announcement , but last I looked they were not anticipating EMA licencing before 2028.
But it looks very promising. They have a stable form of dopamine (not levadopa) which is pumped directly into the substantia nigra from a pump in the stomach, which is refilled once a week by a nurse. It is brain surgery, but fairly tame brain surgery. It's an extension of the subcutaneous idea, but there are no levadopa side effects at all (cos its not levadopa). So a steady , gut and bloodstream bypassing, flow of dopamine to directly replace the dopamine lost by the patient.
It's the usual sanitary towel boasts about running, swimming and other sports.
It's closest to stem cell grafts, but of course higher maintenance with the weekly visits by a nurse.
