Parkinson's Biomarker Found?

Biomarker Found
I'm probably missing something, but I don't see it as that big of a breakthrough. We already knew of the association between Parkinson's disease and alpha synuclein. We still don't know whether alpha synuclein build up is the cause or an effect of Parkinson's disease. I guess it's nice that it can be measured in living humans but unless it's definitively determined to be the CAUSE of Parkinson's all the treatments to remove it may be a waste of time. Correlation does not equal causation.
That was discussed on this forum last April when the news release was given after a week of buildup about a major PD breakthrough coming from MJFF! I notice that they conveniently forgot to mention the required spinal tap in their release article. It was a big nothing then and is a big nothing now. Laurie Mischley's dogs seem as or more accurate , less costly and does not require a spinal tap or an office visit. I wonder how much MJFF contributed to the funding for that research? Simply put, a year later and no mention of that major PD breakthrough anymore.

yes with skin tests and blood tests being developed why would someone want to have a spinal tap

The Syn-One (Skin Biopsy) Test
The Syn-One Test® is a pathological test that uses a skin sample to confirm the presence of phosphorylation in nerves, which can carry the protein that plays an essential role in Parkinson’s. Test results can help PD doctors confirm a Parkinson’s diagnosis.
For this test, your neurologist, or another physician, will perform three small skin biopsies on the upper back, lower thigh and lower leg. The areas are numbed with a local anesthetic. Results take about two to three weeks to be delivered to your doctor.
MJFF always disappoints me
Big organization, a lot of employees, lots of show offs and nothing fruitful😥😥
Ugggggghhhhhhhhhhh
That's more likely to be because you understand nothing about scientific and medical research, never mind the specifics of parkinson's disease, than because what you say is true
Such a waste of research money. Even when detected, we won't know whether that person will develop PD, Lewis Body Dementia, or another Lewy Body disease. Or nothing at all.
The more important research subject is what causes alpha synuclein to misfold and we know that this occurs primarily in the bowel, so let's look at how to take care of our gut and bowel better in early life.
Frankly, most of MJF research money is wasted on paying rich scientists to develop new drugs (very profitable) to treat symptoms that we can stop at the causes.
We don't need a "cure". We can already recover once we discover our individual causes and reverse those.
Less than 1% of research money is spent on health. 99% is spent on expensive medicine.
I assumed the DAT was diagnostic for PD. Why is the alpha-synuclein test better?
