A blood test that looks for changes in certain proteins could help predict dementia in a patient up to 15 years before a formal diagnosis

Thanks but... why?

Unless a test comes with a cure, I would have to take a pass on it.

But it might translate into measuring progression making it easier to objectively monitor disease modification of drugs in test.

It would help if they would use tests that are already available, such as homocysteine and omega 3 (plus blood sugar and thyroid), so that dietary and supplement changes could be made - which have the advantage of not having the side effect risks that go with current dementia meds - and would filter out those with reversible causes and improve those who's causes are not reversible.

Interesting indeed... I foresee insurance refusals based on pre-existing condition exclusion...

And a request to take the test before getting a marriage certificate for those over 50 :(

I am 61 and I took one of those tests; the cyrex Alzeheimers array. It came back with only one elevated protein. Alpha-Synuclein at 1.8 which is high. No other proteins were found. One growth factor was mildly out of range. For me, this is SO good to know! I have no physical symptoms but I do have a loss of smell that I thought was due to Covid and my beautiful handwriting has changed and I didn’t know why!!

So, now I’m working with a Dr on B1 therapy to help!

I personally think it’s very useful. My dad had PD and so this protein is usually elevated and from genetics. (Not sure I explained that too well).

Good job you being proactive. If there is any time to stop progression, it is early. Not that it can't be late also. There may always be time to stop progression.

I am in a similar situation to you. I have not been diagnosed with PD. I have REM Sleep Behavior Disorder and a sore left shoulder and neck and sore left leg and a few other oddities. I am here to stop this from getting any worse (it actually seems to be getting gradually better.

I have a High School Degree, no medical training whatsoever, and a blog to share the lings I learn about trying to stop progression: rbd-pd-protocols.blogspot.com/
