Are neurodegenerative diseases separate or do they represent a spectrum of disease?

I've been vocal about the connection between Dementia, Parkinson's disease and ALS. All three can co-occur in the same person as a syndrome or complex. I've also spoken about the overlap of symptoms in these diseases.

I AM ALS is initiating Cures for All, to unify the broader neurodegenerative community.

I'm very happy to witness this paradigm shift.

Good idea though I'm not sure that even within parkinsons that researchers are joined up. Theyre all in their own little specialist silos, competing for funding and ego recognition.

It seems to me that PD describes a collection of symptoms with no real clue as to what causes it.

Silent echoes, i am looking at the poster picture and think it is unclear. I ask myself what dementia is this referring to, only FTS? Are you using the term dementia interchangeably with Alzheimers? What about Lewy body dementia? (The dementia of PD) Is that included?

Suddenly MS also appears but only in one place? Do you include that? Though some symptoms are similar It has a completely different cause to pd and is not as prevalent. And other Parkinson plus syndromes, are they included or only ALS?

I fear that such a wide brief will do us no favours but collaborating and sharing with those with a neuro focus is good.

Not what you're looking for?
