I found the article titled "Diet in Parkinson's Disease: Critical Role for the Microbiome" on the NCBI website. Here's a brief overview:
**Abstract:**
The gut-brain axis and the microbiome play a pivotal role in Parkinson's Disease (PD). Diet, being a major factor that shapes the composition and function of the gut microbiome, has been postulated to be an important environmental factor that influences PD risk. This review discusses the potential role of various dietary components in PD, focusing on their effects on the gut microbiome and gut-brain axis. The potential therapeutic implications of dietary interventions in PD are also discussed.
Thank you, Bolt for the corrections and I have corrected my commentary based on the comments.
Yes, this is a great article that raises some troubling questions for me. I have always been a great lover of dairy and I will have to stay away from blaming myself for perhaps causing the problem. I have stopped all dairy and it is miserable. Rest of the diet is manageable since I am / was lacto-vegetarian.
I am an outlier, and I have not been diagnosed with PD, but I have not given up dairy.
I have no special training, just a high school degree. I am also prone to error and have poor impulse control.
I think all dairy gets lumped together when it should not. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet and Wahls both allow aged cheese. I believe fermented dairy is safe. I have cheddar cheese and sour cream.
I found this study: Intake of Fermented Dairy Products Induces a Less Pro-Inflammatory Postprandial Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell Gene Expression Response than Non-Fermented Dairy Products: A Randomized Controlled Cross-Over Trial: sci-hub.se/10.1002/mnfr.202...
According to this trial, fermented dairy products are less pro-inflammatory than non-fermented dairy products. They compared fermented products (cheese and sour cream) with non-fermented products (butter and whipped cream). "In this study, we have shown that intake of a high-fat meal composed of fermented dairy products, and especially cheese, has a less pro-inflammatory effect than intake of the non-fermented butter and whipped cream". It's not a slam dunk, but it is enough for me to cut out butter (which is allowed on the SCD) and keep my sour cream.
solid read. Unfortunately, does not really address already having PD but makes assumptions that the Mediterranean diet might help (among other things). What I’ve seen is that the MIND diet is even better
