My A1C is 6.1, i have read articles diabetes and PD are inter twined? ALong with kidney function?
Diabetes, A1C level 6.1, RYTARY re: to ki... - Cure Parkinson's
Diabetes, A1C level 6.1, RYTARY re: to kindey disease???
Not intertwined as far as I know. I reduced my A1C from 7.5 to 5.6 by following a low-carb high-fat diet.
FWIW: diabetesjournals.org/care/a...
Incidence of diabetes associated with A1C levels
"1) risk of incident diabetes increased steeply across the A1C range of 5.0 to 6.5%; 2) both the relative and absolute incidence of diabetes varied considerably across studies; 3) the A1C range of 6.0 to 6.5% was associated with a highly increased risk of incident diabetes, frequently 20 or more times the incidence of A1C <5.0%); 4) the A1C range of 5.5 to 6.0% was associated with a substantially increased relative risk (frequently five times the incidence of A1C <5.0%); and 5) the A1C range of 5.0 to 5.5% was associated with an increased incidence relative to those with A1C <5% (about two times the incidence of A1C <5.0%)."
How long did it take u to decrease a1c 7.5-5.6...wow!!!!
It was a couple of years between successive tests.
It sucks..(Like I don't have enough with PD, now to worry re: this). i goto my neuro next week, so we will see. The kicker is I eat well, work out, weigh 135# at 5"8 and now this ....time to eat "air" i guess, veggies etc aren't cutting it.
I did read somewhere there is a 25% increase chance of PD with diabetes.I have PD and diabetes and stage 3 kidney disease ahhhh happy days oh and yes cut out potatoes and bread and watch your blood sugar levels drop
Please do some research on Black Seed Oil (Nigella Sativa) for tackling Kidney disease. I know a guy who stopped/partially reversed the progression of Kidney Disease - from Stage 4 to Stage 3 by taking 5 ml. of Black Seed Oil once a day and has had it in control ever since. Even his nephrologist was surprised, as he had told him that it was only going to get worse and dialysis was the only option.
I sincerely hope that you can reverse it or at least put a stop to its progression.
Not medical advice, but just sharing. Please do some due diligence.
Take care and good luck.
Berberine will significantly lower HbA1c, improve insulin resistance and helps to protect the kidneys while also being beneficial for PD as discussed in the following links :

A relevant quote from this meta analysis of multiple studies :
' Berberine has a glucose-lowering effect, which is related to the baseline FPG and HbA1c levels of patients. Treatment with berberine may be safe since it does not increase the incidence of total adverse events and the risk of hypoglycemia. '
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
A relevant quote :
' Meanwhile, berberine increased the butyric acid producing bacteria and the butyric acid content in feces, while decreased the renal toxic trimethylamine N-oxide. These findings suggest that berberine may be a therapeutic drug with significant potential to ameliorate chronic kidney disease through the gut–kidney axis. '

A relevant quote :
' In recent years, many researches focused on the role of berberine in central nervous system diseases. Among them, the effect of berberine on neurodegenerative diseases has received widespread attention, for example Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and so on. Recent evidence suggests that berberine inhibits the production of neuroinflammation, oxidative, and endoplasmic reticulum stress. '

A relevant quote :
' Berberine improves physiological stimulation of glucose via cascade reaction of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), thus inducing secretion of insulin in the body, reducing insulin resistance, and improving sensitivity of liver, muscle tissues and fat to insulin (16). Berberine can improve the activity and promote the proliferation of insulin β cells (17). '
Doctors should at a minimum suggest it to their patients because of its multiple health benefits and very good safety profile as well as synergy with Metformin.

As I slouch in my barca-lounger, peering over my spare tire, I realized the big three--cancer, heart disease and stroke--are always with us. One or more of these will get you eventually. Slowing the process down is the best we can do.
